Chapter and verse for the front and back of a doomsayer's imaginary sandwich board: "If we attack Iran. . . we might lose our jobs. . . if we attack Iran. . . we might lose our jobs. . . if we attack Iran."

::::::::

Frankly, the prospect of 7,500 Iranians dead (a conservative estimate) in an attack on their country might seem like a good idea to many Americans. But this is not the time to call our fellow countrymen on the carpet for their very American arrogance and insularity, not to mention their very un-American lack of compassion. For a moment, let's acknowledge the fearful state we've been reduced to by threats real and hyped. In other words, most Americans will only be motivated to express their opposition to an attack on Iran if you can demonstrate that it threatens them even more than terrorism. No problem -- unlike Iraq, if we attack Iran our lives may be turned upside-down. For example, it would be a shock if severe disruptions to the world oil supply failed to occur following an attack on Iran. The figures thrown around are upwards of $150 a barrel -- once cited as bin Laden's idea of a fair price for oil to the West. A cruise missile of a price hike like this, especially on the heels of the recent decline to $60, would slow the economy as sure as sludge slows oil flowing through pipelines. Twenty-five percent unemployment like after the Crash of '29 might sound like an exaggeration. But, ask yourself, do you really want to find out? Are you ready to risk the loss of your job and the ability to support your family in order to keep Iran nuke-free for, what, five more years? If you answered yes, you're a better man than I. Round and round goes the doom-sayer with his sandwich board: "If we attack Iran. . . we might lose our jobs. . . if we attack Iran. . . we might lose our jobs. . . if we attack Iran."
