I find it completely bizarre that as a people we have seen history made so many times, that we cannot see or realize that it's being repeated before our very eyes. I give you two men who have risen to the heights of power, one of which led mankind through one of the darkest periods of history; the other who is trying to rebuild his country to the powerhouse it was before.
The first man, repeated a mistake that another leader made, and he too paid a miserable price for his gambit. Adolf Hitler was powerful orator, had a commanding presence and he had a plan to bring Germany back from the grave that the treaty of Versailles put them in. However, he repeated a mistake made by Napoleon when he made plans for the invasion of Russia; His men died by the hundreds of thousands in the frozen earth of Leningrad and St. Petersburg.
The second man, is not the orator Hitler was, but he does have a powerful presence, and his country is in a grave dug for him by his predecessors and the communist system began under Lenin. When President Bush looked into this mans eyes, he said he saw a"Straight forward and a good man". Vladimir Putin said that the fall of Communism was the greatest disaster of the 20th century, and he is doing his best to do what Hitler did and in almost the same fashion.
Well, I'm not sure what the President saw exactly, but I don't think he saw what he thinks he saw. Mr. Putin is been talking a lot about what our country can and cannot do, and the old Soviet bluster is back. Hitler had his Reichstags pass the enabling act which gave him dictatorial power for four years, which turned into twelve. Putin is having his handpicked replacement (President Medvedev) change the constitution so he (Putin) can return as President, and this time have power for twelve years.(BBC NEWS 11-14-2008” RUSSIAN MP'S BACK PRESIDENCY MOVE) Hitler took Czechoslovakia telling Britain and France that they were coming to the aid of Germans citizens in that country. Putin took Northern Georgia for exactly the same reason, and in case you haven't noticed, Russian troops are still there.
Adolf Hitler led the world into world war 2, and I believe that Vladimir Putin will do the same, and this time, this war will be a limited nuclear engagement. Exactly what a 'limited' engagement is, I don't know, and nor do I want to.
