::::::::

Some time ago (2003? N.Y.Times?) I read Hillary Clinton's explanantion that before the vote on invading Iraq, the White House called her to a secret meeting where she was shown highly secret documents and reports that influenced her vote. And why, at that time, would she have disbelieved them? Later we learned how selective and even phony those secret reports were.

It's a persuasive scene. It could happen to me, agonizing over the responsibility to protect the country and believing that in such a situation the government would be truthful about such important matters. Why doesn't she use this today to explain how her vote came about? I -- and perhaps others -- could be sympathetic.
