One of the authors on this site wrote about how Eliot Spitzer’s whore should not be rewarded because of her deeds but should be punished like anyone else doing a criminal act-or an act that is illegal.
One of the takes on it, so it seemed, was that instead of suffering the same fate as any other perpetrator-that had committed a criminal act- she was, instead, rewarded. Her reward, among others, was being offered to do a spread in “Playboy”
I was reading this and thinking…and thinking more. For some reason it really got under my skin (pun intended). Mainly I was thinking about how otherwise, perhaps non- entities, a lot of women that have been linked to famous men, suddenly get an offer for “Playboy” AND -all of a sudden are granted some intangible value. Some EXTREME FAME! No matter that- before their link to these guys –they were average Josephina with average jobs (or in this woman’s case the oldest profession). NOW, suddenly they are guests of Hef, and this equates, in our society, with the top kudos…upper echelon status for females-or so it so obviously seems.
It makes me sick.
I thought about how absolutely ludicrous that it would be if someone offered Mother Theresa a spread. Imagine a headline that read “Hil gets offer for “Playboy” or “Penthouse”. Okay, in all fairness, since Hil and Mamma T aren’t considered hot. Let’s add someone that would be considered “good looking” and successful. Well…Eliot Spitzer’s very own spouse, Silda Wall Spitzer. Can you imagine how utterly insulted these women would be?
This insult would not come from someone asking them to get naked. It comes from the implied reference: An offer to Playboy is a pardon, a compliment, a reward, and/or an accomplishment. Bullocks. It is none to a thinking person.
“Playboy” doesn’t seem to make offers to women that have other accomplishments that have nothing to do with their bodies and their looks.
How gross that- and I am insulting the action not the author- someone would concur that it is a reward to be offered a spread in “Playboy”. It is not only this author but a general consensus to some that… as a woman…a spread in Playboy…is the be all and end all.
You have reached Nirvana.
Blech.
This is not coming from a prudish standpoint and not coming from envy. I am a good looking “hot” woman and could easily be in “Playboy”. This is coming from how much it really says. How come the men linked with famous women, however formerly unknown, are not offered spreads in Playgirl?
It is basically “oh…let’s see who this famous man desires sexually and see if we rate her as hot”. That is all she must have to offer, right?
Maybe it is all she has to offer and maybe that is why it is an acceptable “reward” system for the bimbos of our society.
It is so utterly insulting and pathetic.
I can’t imagine calling all of my friends and saying “Hef called me…I got a spread”.
I can, however, imagine being excited if the New York Times called me to print a story that I had authored. I would remain a faceless entity with something other than my body to offer to society. I would think that was a grand reward.
Men probably, because they like to look at the beauties in “Playboy” probably do think that it is a reward to be in such a magazine. After all, they are buying it at 5.00 a copy (sorry…didn’t google the price). Men may find an offer of getting naked in a famous publication, for themselves, a reward.
I have nary an idea. I am not a boy.
Boys??? Men????
