I've long been a fan of MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. Over the past few years, Olbermann has been one of the very few mainstream media figures who's had the guts to speak truth to power. But I have to disagree with him on his latest public feud. In a recent interview with New York Magazine, Olbermann decided to stick it to CNN reporter Anderson Cooper, who is long rumored to be gay. Olbermann apparently doesn't like the fact that Cooper chooses to keep his sex life to himself. Keith, Cooper may choose to discuss some aspects of his personal life but not others. That is his own inherent right to some degree of privacy. Yes, Cooper is a celebrity, and that makes his personal life more open to public scrutiny. But, Keith, I don't see your face and sex life splattered all over the pages of magazines, so you can't demand the same of your perceived rival. Besides, it's in really poor taste to "out" someone who hasn't already outed himself. And, quite frankly, if you keep this up, people will start questioning your own sexuality. After all, those who tend to make a big deal about the sexuality of others are usually the ones who are having trouble facing their own sexual issues. Keith, I still love you, but your pedestal is shrinking from this Cooper thing. Please let it go. -----
