Malik Rahim's message of environmental peace and justice is resonating powerfully with New Orleans voters. In the past week, volunteer calls have identified dozens of new volunteers and hundreds of new supporters. With only days left until December 6th, we have a choice. We can either sit back and let a bribe-taking politician stagger to reelection, or we can pick up our phones and help send the first Green to Congress. You can volunteer to call potential voters from anywhere in the country. Please read on.

::::::::

If you have not heard already, Green Party candidate for Congress in Louisiana's second district Malik Rahim's campaign has launched a project to allow people all over the country - and even people outside of the US - to volunteer for it.  It is a phone-banking project, but not in the traditional sense.  A script, instructions, and other materials are provided online and anyone who wants to can sign up to call potential voters in New Orleans before the December 6th election.  It is organized through Campaign Foundations and Green Change.  You can sign up here.

I have been participating in this project, and it is one of the best things I have seen from a third party candidate this year.  Not only does it allow you to participate even if you are thousands of miles from New Orleans, like I am, but it tracks your progress.  For instance, I have called twenty people, spoken with two voters, left multiple messages, and scheduled one call back.

The progress of the project overall has been good, but not spectacular.  Hopefully over the next six days more people will sign up and make calls.  The progress of the total phone bank operation:
Overall our phone canvass team has worked 70 phone bank shifts, dialed 823 phone numbers, spoken with 158 voters, left messages with 190 households, identified unknown supporters, added 10 subscribers to our campaign lists, placed 3 yard signs, scheduled 17 call backs

If every person who saw this article volunteered, the number of calls made could easily be doubled (or more), even if each person only made one call.  And now is a great time to volunteer.  Just read an email sent out today:

In an era when our government's actions regularly provoke outrage, cynicism and resignation, Malik Rahim's heroism is a ray of hope for all of us who dream of a better world. Now more than ever, we need you to bring Malik's message to voters and show America that there is hope for real change.

Congressman Malik Rahim. It's within reach, if we all do as much as we can before Saturday's election.
