Rob's email today was right on point about the takeover of Congress by the monied interest. That is apparent in the oil profits, the Iraq War profiteers and those in the right wing that pander to the worst fears. Nowhere is it more apparent than in the healthcare industry, where the profits of major healthcare industry leaders and the insurance industry have convinced people that healthcare is made more expensive by lawsuits filed by those who are injured. There are now nearly 200,000 people killed each year by hospital error, 1.5 million people injured each year by medication errors, and 90,000 people killed each year by hospital-acquired infections. The cost of treating injuries and illness created by error is infinitely more than the cost of compensating the victims of medical error, but insurance companies and hospitals want to blame patients for the cost of healthcare. The attack by insurance companies on patients has been taken to Congress, where just three months ago a bill was narrowly defeated (authored by Doctor and hospital owner Senator Bill Frist), which would have limited death victims all over the country to less than $75,000 compensation for their families. The bill was, ironically, labelled the "Health Care Fairness" act, and was introduced in "Health Care Week." The truth of this charade is that the insurance companies only care about their profits, which are now at an all-time high. My website gives you more of the full story.
