OpEdNews - Diary: Health Care Mandate: Aren't you sick of cleaning up right-wing crap?

It is time to call the right-wing on their opposition to the health care reform mandate to purchase insurance.

In the first place, the health care insurance mandate was a Republican idea, fifteen years ago. In the second place, I am so sick of hearing them b*tch about it that I could scream. They just scream and squawk about having their freedoms encroached upon, bugt it's like this: if we are going to not have universal free health care for everyone, like a civilized country should, and if we are going to continue to employ the for-profit insurance model to deliver health care, then everyone has to participate. You are NOT free to skip having health insurance because you might be young and healthy. Why? Because the insurance model spreads the risk of severe illness among the entire population. And if you aren't covered and get sick, we have to treat you anyway and the taxpayers and others who DO have insurance get stuck with the cost. And that means that your irresponsible and selfish behavior (or freedom to choose to not have coverage) is now affecting someone ELSE'S right to the sacred pursuit of life, liberty and happiness, and you don't get to do that. So shut the hell up.
