Hurricanes, McCain's day to shine, and maybe just a little homage paid to working people. The Prez stood waiting in Austin to tell us something. Demonstrators were making headlines. And I steamed some vegetables. All in a day's work.Yesterday I saw scenarios of perfect storms, politically speaking. What if that No. Five stayed number five and played a rerun of Katrina? What if the activists overacted and played a rerun of Labor Unrest? Glad to say my nerves withstood the strain.
Wasn't that nice how Barack in Detroit downpedalled his Labor Day speech to talk about coming together for the folks in harms way in the Gulf (in the USA)? It gave me a chance to steam the vegetables. This is the first Monday of the month and I had a meeting to keep.
You would be welcome to join us if you were in Maryville, Tenn. The Reminiscing Writers Workshop meets at our Towers. I am designated the keeper of the stories. We each read our contribution for the month, and then I type them up for everyone to keep. We've been doing it for seven years, with members coming and going according to their circumstances. This being a US holiday, there would be no Meals on Wheels. It was an occasion, therefore, for the residents to share potluck at noon.
All of a sudden, some women came to my door to ask if we shouldn't have the meeting next week, because folks would be making too much noise in the Community Room. It's not what anyone said a month ago when I asked. Something needed to be constant in my life, so I explained we'd have to hold the meeting since there was not time to notify everyone, and if there was too much noise they could come to my place.
Allow me to brag. Things came off without a hitch. Only one member could not come because of illness but she sent her submission. It was one of our best meetings. There was no noise. And before the starting time, I had a chance to cut up the cabbage and green pepper and apple and steam them to share with our ailing sister.
So. If you haven't become too bored with this little touch of domestic tranquility, it may be because you never saw what was happening at C-Span. Those poor folks switched from one idea to another. There were weather reports, callins, reruns of nostalgia from McCain buddies, and a constant reminder the president would make an announcement. (I didn't hear Dubya because it was time to deliver the food and go to the meeting.)
Those Republicans sure have a hard time keeping their meeting in sync. I hope they have something to critique tomorrow. It will be good to have less Palin and more bombs-away to discuss. I'm not much into a discussion of ob-gyn as it pertains to vice-presidents. But then again. Well, what is the point? Is it what the meaning of "is" is?
