As usual, any sportscast in the US contains some right-wing politics along with the sports. This is always presented as perfectly natural and a part of the conversation between talking heads. But over time you might eventually notice that its all very right wing ... and never, ever expressing any opinions of the left.
I still like watching sports, so I tune it out and ignore it. Other than noting that its there of course. Recognizing it is part of defeating it mentally.
Still, I was a bit floored by what Faux Sports did during the World Series. They were raving about how intellectual the Rays manager was. Of course, I should have known this meant he was also a fan of the right. No one who wasn't would be described as being 'smart' on US tv. As a part of this, they were showing some of the signs the manager has put up around his clubhouse.
As a part of this, they show one of the signs, which is a quote from Alan Greenspan. It reads ....
"Rules are no substitute for character."
I almost hurt myself laughing. The Faux-announcers of course were oblivious to the impact of this quote. They just kept babbling on as if this showed how smart this manager was. From someone who should have been one of the main overseers and enforcers of rules in the financial system, illustrated just so incredibly perfectly the disasterous attitude that has cost this nation well over a trillion dollars in lost wealth and counting.
Don't get me wrong. From a purely baseball standpoint, I like the Rays and what they've done. And obviously the manager who brought them from laughing stock to World Series deserves respect. But, it he had any sense at all, that sign would have disappeared from his clubhouse months ago.
