June 9, Dennis Kucinich introduced impeachment of George Bush.
That's a victory for the Constitution -- and polls are showing most Americans to be in favor of impeachment. The climate is warmer for the topic now; that's a victory for the right side of history.
June 12, the US Supreme Court ruled that "secret military tribunals" are not the end of the story for detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Habeas Corpus is being restored, and other "due process of law" features.
That's a victory for the Constitution, which is not just a peace time document -- it also applies in war time. The Supreme Court has said that before, and now it has said it again. (It is somewhat dismaying to note that four justices seem to be pro-torture. But the other five justices were the majority, and those four were overruled - the victory for the Constitution was narrowly thin, but a victory is a victory, and we'll take it!)
June 12, the voters of Ireland rejected the Lisbon treaty - a warmed over version of the previously-rejected EU Constitution.
That's a victory for people over the political establishment. It reflects people distrusting consolidation of governments and multilateral treaties that point ultimately to a one-world government. This was a blow to globalists. Hooray for the voters of Ireland!
(And this puts a wrench in the works for the EU. The Lisbon treaty was already a "second attempt" to pass those provisions. Maybe the elites will repackage their EU provisions and try to sell them a third time -- but, they are now twice-rejected.)
What a week! :)
