Real estate mogul and political power broker, Donald Trump, has just opened his new golf course in Scotland, birthplace of golf and his mother, and he is the subject of a British Documentary film that my be biggest UK movie of all time.

An aesthetic suggestion: Listen to the following music videos while reading this piece:

The golfing world should be disgusted and appalled. Donald Trump has built another gaseous and bloated monument to his porcine ego. I would imagine most folks care very little if he builds or remodels urban structures in ever more delusional, repulsive displays of his witless vanity. The rapidly declining political culture of America having pathetically placed an even taller gilded vainglorious pointy royal dunce's hat atop his horrible coiffure with Romney, Palin, Gingrich et. al. anointing him, the dreadfully narcissistic power broker, "American Capitalist Numero Uno". However he appears now to be treading heavy and arrogantly on Mother Nature. Up to this point he has been solely a Capitalist buffoon now it appears he is becoming a culturally and environmentally destructive Capitalist buffoon.

Six years ago he purchased an old estate in Aberdeenshire on the North Sea coast of Scotland. The property is eighty miles north of the Holy Grail of golf, St. Andrews; a pilgrimage destination for golfers worldwide. The game was purportedly first played at St. Andrews over five hundred years ago.

So, in an act of unbelievable vanity and treachery, Trump builds his golfing monument on the very same coast as the venerable St. Andrews, declaring it to be, "The world's greatest golf course." I imagine the greens will be a little greener, the fairways less rough, the bunkers better kempt, the club sandwiches taller, the caddies dressed in snappier attire and, most importantly, the ostentatious attempt to one-up the tradition and mystique of St. Andrews on full display. What better way to honor your heritage than to return to the mother country and trash it?

Golf, at its core, is a quasi-spiritual, Zen-like (unfortunately most of the golfing wardrobe does not speak to the game's Zen aspects), contemplative act of self-exploration, acted out in the arms of mother nature -- she being subjected to varying degrees of horticultural cosmetic surgery. Golf has not always been kind to the environment. However that is starting to change with the new environmental awareness across the globe. So what does The Donald do? He naturally bucks the trend and builds his new course, "...on a unique, protected area, a so called Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), designated for its nationally important landforms and wildlife." Many, many people of the surrounding area and Scotland in general are extremely angry with Mr. Trump. In typical repulsive "The Donald" form, Trump responded to the concerns of one of the local residents by commenting,"He lives like a pig."

If Mr. Trump wanted to honor his mother and her Scottish heritage why didn't he buy the land and donate it back to Scotland as wildlife sanctuary? There are more than enough opportunities for us duffers, intrepidly trodding the links in bad plaid shorts and astounding wicker fedoras, to find somewhere to play a round. However, a safe, protected environment for the world's wildlife is becoming increasingly scarce. It is so very sad for one to "go home" only to exploit and self-aggrandize.

Donald Trump is the antonym, the caricaturist opposite of the Bruce Cockburn line, "You're the best of what we are" The new Trump golf course in Scotland represents the worst of what we are.

"Chan eil anns an taigh ach Domhnall."
