Today (during a congressional question and answer session on the ongoing Iraq occupation), I watched and listened to a wonderful performance by General John Abizaid. It was such a great act that it brought back not so fond memories of Colin Powell's Oscar level performance for the U.N. {Hey, who knew we had such great actors in the military?} The General set the congressional stage by regurgitating the same tired old lies that we've been hearing for years. You know the drill: things are getting better, the insurgency is in it's last throes, we're gonna better train and beef up the Iraqi forces, yada, yada, yada. Furthermore, while Gen. Abizaid was regurgitating all that recycled horse shit, he actually had the nerve to try to come off as if "his plan" was a new plan from a new source. {Man, what balls these military actors have!} But the "coups de gr ce" was when he pretended to shoot down/turn down the requests of both Democrats and Republicans - all the while indirectly insisting that everything must remain the same. {Whoa! Now that was a show stealer!} Folks, what the general (and his Republican accomplices) pulled today is an old con game called "Bait & Switch". And here's how they did it: The Republicans that were asking questions of the general, they knew (ahead of time) that their questions would be turned/shot down. It was all "theater". A dramatic performance given to manipulate public opinion, and also, so that they could later pretend to "commiserate" with the Democrats and claim that they too had tried to make change, but their "hands were tied." If you think I'm wrong, then just you watch, it won't be long before the Republicans whine, "Waaaa, we are helpless victims (of a bad situation) too and you Democrats can't complain because we didn't get what we wanted either." (Wink*Wink*Nudge*Nudge*Know whut I mean? *know whut I mean? - You Monty Python fans will get this...) Bottom Line: If this con is successful, it gets Bush exactly what he wants. He gets to "stay the course" and he is also insulated from further criticism. This "Bait & switch" show that congressional Republicans and General John Abizaid put on today - it had "Karl Rove" written all over it. Well, that's my opinion folks, goodnight!
