Two things worth keeping in mind ...

There are two things worth keeping in mind regarding the "fracking" issue, particularly among those who may not yet know about them:
1) The United Nations Aarhus Convention Agreement has been ratified by the Republic of Ireland -- on June 20th 2012 -- as can be seen at the following United Nations www page address:

NOTE: The "Republic of Ireland" is listed as "Ireland" on the above page.
As can also be seen on the above www page, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ratified the United Nations Aarhus Convention Agreement on February 23rd 2005.
The full text (available in several languages) of the United Nations Aarhus Convention Agreement, most of which -- and deliberately by design I believe -- can easily be understood by people who are not lawyers, can be found at:

2) Article 6.1 of Bunreacht na hEireann, the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland, and as such the SUPREME LAW of the Republic of Ireland, reads as follows:
"All powers of government, legislative, executive and judicial, derive, under God, from the people , whose right it is to designate the rulers of the State and, in final appeal , to decide all questions of national policy, according to the requirements of the common good. "
NOTE: In connection with events of recent years, all three of the main branches of Republic of Ireland Governments (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial) have "form" regarding the matter of very seriously violating Article 6.1 of our Constitution. The Unsatisfactory Involvement of Senator Michael Mullins, Former Justice Minister Nora Owen,
and Former President Mary McAleese, in the Creation of "Waste Management Amendment Act 2001"...
'(East Galway County) Councillor Michael Mullins (at present a Senator) told me on December 8th 2003 that he would write to President Mary McAleese about the matter: which, as President McAleese is the (principal) guardian of our Constitution, seemed very appropriate to me. For reasons unknown to me, and although she could easily have checked the matter with the Supreme Court (at no expense to herself) I believe, it appears to be the case that President McAleese refused to do so: even though an article in the Irish Times Newspaper dated July 11th 2001 clearly states: "An appeal was made in the DÃ ¡il yesterday to the President, Mrs Mary McAleese, to refer the controversial Waste Management Bill to the Supreme Court. Nora Owen (FG, Dublin North) urged the President, "the third element of the Oireachtas", to ask the Supreme Court to test the constitutionality of the Bill". At an earlier period in time (1994 - 1997), Ms Nora Owen was Minister for Justice in the Republic of Ireland.'
