I had thought my New Year's Wish was a simple one, namely that 2 + 2 = 4. Or put another way, that this world would begin to make a little sense. Alas, my wish has already been dashed in many ways, but here's the latest:

::::::::

Molly Ivins, a former favorite writer of mine, along with Arianna Huffington, failed to get behind Dennis Kucinich in the last elections. Why they would do this, when this individual represents everything they claim to stand for, is a mystery to me.

But now things have gotten worse, and it looks like 2 + 2 = not even a number, but a bunch of baloney. Ok, I'm being polite-Molly appears to be presenting us with a bold face lie, though I'd rather assume she simply neglected an important piece of her homework. You can check out her original article, but here is the part that particularly caught my attention:

Molly: "We need to cut through all the smoke and mirrors and come up with an exit strategy, forthwith. The Democrats have yet to offer a cohesive plan to get us out of this mess. Of course, it's not their fault-but the fact is we need leaders who are grown-ups and who are willing to try to fix it. Bush has ignored the actual grown-ups from the Iraq Study Group and the generals and all the other experts, who are nearly unanimous that more troops will not help."

That paragraph appeared at Truthdig.org, January 5, 2007.

On December 6, on that very same website, we have this from Dennis Kucinich, in an interview with Joshua Sheer:

Dennis: "So if we continue to ignore the money that's there right now to bring the troops home [$70 billion, already allotted], we're losing an opportunity to bring the troops home now. People are now saying that they oppose the war, but they're continuing to fund it in the name of supporting the troops.

They say they're not going to abandon the troops in the field. We're professing a strange love for these troops by keeping them there, because the money's there to bring them home. So this is going to shape up as a major discussion across this country. People are going to want to know why Democrats would not bring the troops home now, when the money is there now."

So there you have it: Molly Ivins claiming the Dems have no cohesive plan to get us out of this mess, Dennis Kucinich laying out the plan right before our eyes.

Who ya gonna listen to?

First and foremost, I encourage you to learn about this fellow as your potential future president. Chris Hedges recently wrote: "In this year's presidential election I will vote for a third-party candidate, either the Green Party candidate or Rocky (more...)
