I was always a socialist. I believe that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I believe that many people work hard, study hard and still can't get ahead, because the oligarchy of wealthy people keep them out. I have personally witnessed within my own family a child from the working class, (my own) outscore on the SAT a member from the wealthy class (another member of my family), and still the member from the wealthy class is accepted into an Ivy league school. They are not powerful intellectuals, but members of a powerful clique. Their ideas are accepted not because they are superior, but because they are wealthier.I have seen our society decline due to a focus on the needs of the rich. Every elected official no matter what they preach kneels before the corporate class, and this goes for Obama as well. Every decision he makes is for the upper class to maintain power. The powerful are all about making money for them, and the planet, the people, the future be damned.
What held me back before from being a blatant communist in the style of Che Guevara was A) I don't believe in violence and B) I am a very spiritual person.
Now as I look at what religion has done to this country I begin to wonder. Many do not believe in evolution and deliberately try to damage the teaching of science. Many have numerous children even though we face an overpopulated planet. They cling to anti-abortion stances because they believe we can continue to overpopulate. They jump on war bandwagons for illogical reasons. They proselyze to the point of harassment.
My real question is: Can we realistically elect people to change our government when fraud, corruption, and bribery are so rampant? I have not answered that one yet. Still pondering.
As for libertarians, well, people are animals and have always protected themselves within a group. We are not loners, rugged individualists. We survive together withn a group.
