We belong to a CSA-- Community Supported Agriculture-- a farm that has about 180 members who get food directly from the farm. Once a week we stop by to pick up the harvest for the week. This is a major ingredient in cutting our dependence on foreign oil. There's almost no oil in the food-- meaning that no oil is spent transporting the produce to a store thousands of miles away.

The harvest for this week looked so beautiful, I had to take a picture. I must confess, until I was out in the fields last week picking the last of the season's tomatos, I never knew how brussel sprouts grew.
This year, our CSA membership was a great bargain. The amount of organically grown food we got, and the flowers and fresh herbs was amazing, not to mention the fun and community of going to a farm we have a stake in supporting, rather than a chain grocery store.
