FISA Update: Retroactive Immunity Vote Likely Tomorrow MorningThe Senate has just renewed debate on the surveillance bill, but it appears that the most anticipated votes will occur at the very earliest tomorrow morning, or as late as Wednesday.
The two sides have yet to hash out the timing, but we hear that the two amendments dealing with retroactive immunity -- that's both the Feingold/Dodd amendment to strip retroactive immunity for the telecoms that cooperated with the administration's warrantless wiretapping program and the Specter/Whitehouse amendment that would substitute the government in lawsuits related to the program -- will be offered at the earliest tomorrow morning. But votes on the measures could come as late as Wednesday.
Once again, we'll keep you updated as some of the other amendments are considered and things develop.

My theory is that Americans, even self proclaimed progressive ones are now so seduced by the horse race of the Presidential election that they will avert their eyes from any and all betrayals of the oaths of office of their preferred Presidential candidate(s). They will allow themselves to boil like frogs in a water as the heat turns up. They will allow themselves to become complict in torture and aggressive invasions.
In short my theory is that I will see good Americans become good Germans rationalising to themselves as they do so that at each step they are always choosing the lesser of two evils, when what they will be doing is failing to take any stand that counts.
