THE SALE OF MILK AND MEAT PRODUCTS FROM CLONED ANIMALS WILL NOT BE RESTRICTED OR MONITORED, AND THE PRODUCTS WILL NOT BE LABELED.

::::::::

DIANE'S NEWS CLIPS begins here :)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> FDA PROPOSES TO RELEASE CLONED PRODUCTS INTO FOOD SUPPLY http://www.ucsusa.org/food_and_environment/feed/feed-january-2007.html#1 In late December, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) set the stage to move cloned animals into the food supply by releasing a risk assessment concluding that cloned food animals and their progeny are safe to eat. The voluntary moratorium on selling cloned milk and meat will remain in place until the FDA has reviewed public comments on its risk assessment, probably no earlier than next summer. UNDER THE MANAGEMENT PLAN OUTLINED BY THE FDA, THE SALE OF MILK AND MEAT PRODUCTS FROM CLONED ANIMALS WILL NOT BE RESTRICTED OR MONITORED, AND THE PRODUCTS WILL NOT BE LABELED. The assessment acknowledged, but dismissed, the developmental malformations that occur in cloned animals, which occur at far higher rates with cloning than with other forms of assisted reproduction. The only benefit of cloning cited by the FDA was a possibly faster rate at which new traits could be moved into food animals compared to sexual reproduction. Read more in The Washington Post, http://snipurl.com/17by7 and look for UCS's action alert on cloning in coming weeks! _________________________________ NOTE from Diane: Each time you see the photo of the tearful face of GW Bush at the ceremony of the soldier who gave his life for his fellow soldiers, remember this -- Bundy was a nice guy. I knew someone who jumped out of a car into oncoming traffic to save a turtle crossing the road, a cruel and violent someone. Go figure. Life is interesting. _________________________________ .ron corvuswire@verizon.net Did the President Declare "Secret War" Against Syria and Iran? Washington intelligence, military and foreign policy circles are abuzz today with speculation that the President, yesterday or in recent days, sent a secret Executive Order to the Secretary of Defense and to the Director. BUSH DOES THE SURGE THING | OPPOSITION TO ESCALATION GROWS MEDIA CONFERENCE OPENS TOMORROW They always called the White House a "bully pulpit." Now we see what happens when a real bully operates it. As expected, as predicted, as an extension of character and his worldview, President Bust defied public opinion, told the Congress to shove it, ignored the recommendations of key generals and the Iraq Survey Group, and announced his escalation of the war as part of a "package" to foster democracy, restore human liberty, and most of all save his legacy if such is possible. There will be peace in Iraq, his kind of peace, no matter the cost in money and human lives. And oh yes, he reassured us all again that he woud be protecting u s from another 911. CNN reported it thusly: Bush admits mistakes, deploys more troops President Bush tonight unveiled his new plan for Iraq; the deployment of more than 20,000 troops to help Iraqis secure Baghdad and to fight al Qaeda in Iraq. He admitted: "Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me." Here's the text if you can stand it: http://www.nytimes.com He speechified in a room he probably never visited: the White House Library and mostly got through the speech without stumbling almost saying it reprsented the last best hope for mankind. He implied that the Iraq Survey Group and Congressional recommendations were in it , cited Joe Lieberman by name and announced that Condi is off to the Middle East to do some arm twisting on Friday. The networks were mostly skeptical. Only CBS hung around for some analysis from their White House guy. You could hear the chants of protesters behind him but of course we weren't allowed to see them. Bush is betting on and butressing Malicki who he was criticizing for incompetence and wanting to replace just a few months ago. Juan Cole reports there is an other Iraqi plan not being reported in the USA: Continued here: http://www.newsdissector.com/blog/2007/01/11/blog-notes/ _________________________________ .ron corvuswire@verizon.net Commentary Talk about needlessly putting American troops in harm's way, this is it. Think about this, Bush wants to send 21,000 more troops to Iraq, approx. 75% of those troops will be assigned to Baghdad. There are over 5 MILLION Iraqis that live, breathe, work, and carry arms in the City of Baghdad. Do the math - Bush didn't. 75% of 21,000 is 15,750. Bush is sending 15,750 U.S. troops into Baghdad, a city of over 5 MILLION Iraqis - most all of them pissed at Bush and the U.S. occupiers. Do you realize what percentage of 5 million 15,750 is? 15,750 is exactly .31743% of 5 million people. That's less than .4% of the number of Iraqis in Baghdad. In other words, Bush is sending a group of U.S. soldiers the size of less than 4/10 of one percent of the size of the population of Baghdad, into Baghdad neighborhoods to secure Baghdad. And Bush expects those soldiers to identify all the "bad guys" and kill them, and "hold" the city. Talk about needlessly putting American troops in harm's way, this is it. But according to these pro-war ba*tards, it's far more dangerous for Democratic Congressmen to cut off funding and bring the troops home ... yeah, right. Just like everything else that's happened thus far in Iraq, it won't happen the way Bush and the neocons envision it. In my opinion, this ill-fated "surge" will undoubtedly result in an increase in the number of dead American soldiers killed in Iraq and the number of Iraqi casualties. The "theory" behind Bush's surge is that the troops will be sufficient in numbers to take and hold dangerous neighborhoods the U.S. military has never tried to "take" before. Fat chance. It's NOT going to happen -- I guarantee it. Remember, it costs insurgents-Iraqis pennies a day to wage war against American forces. It costs America over two billion dollars a week to remain in Iraq. You tell me who's going home first. .ron p.s. I wonder how many body bags Bush will send with those 21,000 troops. _________________________________ Excerpted from: http://www.truthout.org US Forces Storm Iranian Consulate http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/011107B.shtml US forces have stormed an Iranian consulate in the northern Iraqi town of Irbil and seized six members of staff. But the biggest problem is what he rode in on. Martin Luther King Jr. had a good name for it 40 years ago: 'The madness of militarism.' We can blame Bush all we want - and he does hold the reins right now - but his main enablers these days are the fastidious public servants in Congress. They keep preparing the hay, freshening the water, oiling the saddle, even while criticizing the inappropriately jocular rider. And when the band plays 'Hail to the Jockey,' most of the grown-up stable boys and girls can't help saluting. --- The New York Times | The Real Disaster http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/011107K.shtml "President Bush told Americans last night that failure in Iraq would be a disaster. MySpace has censored our ad about the dangers of media consolidation. Common Cause members have already sent tens of thousands of messages to the FCC - but in this final week before the deadline, we wanted to advertise on high-traffic websites to recruit new activists. Outrageously, MySpace told us that they "won't allow that to be shown." (The ad we submitted is below.) Maybe MySpace doesn't want the word getting out about proposed changes to the ownership rules because they themselves are owned by a media conglomerate. In 2005, MySpace was gobbled up by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., which also owns Fox. Their refusal proves our point: Big Media has too much control over what the public hears, sees and watches -- and we need to let the FCC know it.
