This morning I stumbled onto an interview of Chris Hedges that took place at the very beginning of Obama's presidency. I found Hedges words to be remarkable for how accurately they predicted what has happened since that time and troublesome for their predictions of what might happen later. I strongly recommend listening to his words and giving them some serious thought. He noted his near certainty that the unjustified expectations that had been heaped on Obama would turn to disappointment. He expected (as should we all) that the right would attack him as "the other" and that the inevitable disappointment of the left would turn into anger at him and at his administration. Clearly all of this has come to pass.
His expectations for what might follow was for a repetition of a right-wing, probably fascist government, however he noted that we no longer have the institutional tools to fight the growth of such a government.
