The bogus war on terror has become the proverbial tar baby for the Democrats and the more that they punch it to show that they are tougher than the torture loving, Jack Bauer invoking Republican fascists the more that they become entrapped and covered in its fetid goo. Since the ‘tar baby’ reference will more than likely set off knee jerk reactions accusing me of being a racist with some who read this perhaps the Bush-Cheney-Rove Axis of Evil’s spider web would be an equally appropriate analogy. So long as the Democrats fail to challenge the simplistic bumper sticker narrative of the war on terror they will be unable to ever seize the initiative on championing a return to American values or to otherwise lead the way out of this very dark and dangerous alley of the neoconservative torture state.
The increasingly bellicose rhetoric of the Democratic party presidential candidates have been captive to the never ending ‘war on terror’ thereby doing nothing to indicate that the cycle of foreign violence and domestic repression will ever be broken. Both corrupt neocon warmonger Hillary Rodham-Clinton and CFR stooge Barrack Obama are engaged in a ludicrous exchange of whether to nuke Iran or Pakistan and neither one – nor any candidate short of Mike Gravel or Denis Kucinich (both afforded laughingstock status by the pocket media) will seriously address the Iraq charnel house or attempt to ensure the public that they will restore our stolen civil liberties, habeas corpus and hold the war criminals responsible accountable. How long until one of the gruesome twosome proposes settling the illegal immigration problem once and for all by attacking Mexico? All of this chest thumping and measuring of dicks does absolutely nothing to solve the true problems plaguing America such as the destruction of the middle class, the health care crisis, a collapsing dollar, skyrocketing food prices, Wall Street’s rapacious looting spree or our crumbling infrastructure. Is it any wonder that the Democratic party is being viewed with increasing distrust by restive Americans who are beginning to suspect that the game is rigged and they are the ones who have been screwed by the house? The national cancer of perpetual war will not be easily be cured that is if it has not already reached the terminal stages due to the failure of the Democrats to take a stand.
Meanwhile, the summer of fear rolls on, sweltering temperatures and suffocating dread grip the nation. Potential ‘terrorists’ lurk under every bridge or behind every convenience store counter, our airports have become Soviet style checkpoints and to illustrate just how deeply that we have descended into an Orwellian style bizarro world nightmare even blocks of cheese are warily regarded as if they were fucking semtex. Washington goes into heightened alert mode to set the mood for what is may or may not be coming in September, the propaganda has been incessant, the right-wing madhouse choir shrieking and running about with their hair on fire and I continue to be creeped out as to exactly what was Rick Santorum talking about when he made the following prediction:
“Between now and November, a lot of things are going to happen, and I believe that by this time next year, the American public’s going to have a very different view of this war, and it will be because, I think, of some unfortunate events, that like we’re seeing unfold in the UK. But I think the American public’s going to have a very different view”
Paranoid? Not in the post 9/11 Homeland where paranoia, fear and loathing have been permanently embedded in the national psyche and have now become as American as apple pie.
