That’s right! It is stipulated that Barack Obama reversed the direction in which he was leaning to bypass public financing and secure an advantage to his own campaign for president. Now, the Neocon right and their bought and paid for shills in the corporate press are in full bullshit storm mode assuming that they can shame him into allowing these assholes to regain a financing ascendancy that the American people have taken away from them with small contributions.
Even the filthy-rich-through-better-thieving mega-corporations aren’t going to contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to a losing cause like McCain, no matter that his campaign is entirely orchestrated from K Street. With such a weak candidate, welded at the mouth to the universally repudiated Bush administration as he is, Republicans were hoping for any advantage to hang their hat on.
Their traditional advantage in financing was it, considering the sterile desert of hope that is John McCain’s candidacy. The American People have taken that away now, buying back their government one small check at a time, and the Republicans think that their public puling and lying admonishments will change something. They will just have to live with the $84 million that they had better be grateful for. After all, most of the taxpayers providing that don't support McCain either.
As they goose step through this campaign season, they should strive to see further ahead than their own toes. To do so would be to understand that, as they suspect, what Obama has done with this decision is going to help him to hand them their ass; and they can spend the next eight years munching on it.
Will the voters remember this “flip flop” on Obama’s part? No. They will forgive and forget it because they see where their own interests lie. They also see where the Republicans lie, and the Republican Party will be the next thing that the American People hope to forget.
