Dave Kopel. Not satisfied with mocking Michael Moore, he has eye now set on UNICEF. Yes, UNICEF, the charity devoted to welfare of children. On his article"Tricked by UNICEF" for the National Review Online(October 26, 2007), Kopel says, "UNICEF has been a major financier of Palestinian “summer camps” which encourage children to become suicide bombers. One such camp is named for Wafa Idris, a female suicide bomber."
Growing up in Nepal, one of the poorest nation in the world, I saw the wonderful work UNICEF did for the country's children and their families. In remote districts of the country, not accessible by road where people don't have enough to eat a meal a day, UNICEF provides food, health supplies and medical help. They help save lives of children otherwise forgotten.
UNICEF's wonderful work benefits children all over the world.According to its website, since 2000 poverty has increased in the occupied territories and "Chronic malnutrition affects nearly 10 per cent of children under age five. The situation is most acute in Gaza, where 50,000 children are malnourished. About half of children under age two are anaemic and 70 per cent have vitamin A deficiency. "(Source)
An organizaation working for the benefit of children facing such steep challenges is spreading terrorism? By doing what? Giving them food, safe environment to play, giving them chance to enjoy their childhood?
No organization is perfect and UNICEF has some major issues to deal with but one cannot ignore the good work it has done for children and blame that it somehow encourages extremism, without any independently verifiable proof.
