Palin: A problem for Liberal Feminists. From National Post
Palin is a real problem for the feminists, who are tearing their hair out trying to find a *** in her armour. Her life narrative reads like a 1950s woman of the patriarchy, but her accomplishments are those of a totally emancipated woman who broke through the glass ceiling on her own merits, hard work and determination. You can’t say the same for Hillary, a playbook feminist in theory who rose to eminence on a man’s coattails.
Palin’s contribution to this campaign, if nothing else, is to debunk the myth that it was the patriarchy and traditional values that stopped women from achieving parity in their ambitions with men. Perhaps because the feminist movement has always been a big city, university-educated phenomenon, it bypassed the small towns of America completely. Palin is neither a feminist nor an anti-feminist. She is just authentically herself, with nothing to prove. She wasn’t “Woman, Hear me Roar,” she was “Palin, Hear me Speak.” For forty years we have been hearing feminists moan and groan about the special burden of being a woman in a man’s world. Suddenly here is a woman, with no resentment against men who is handling an amazing career and a big family with total aplomb.
The election campaign is fascinatingly well balanced now. Two of the contenders, McCain and Biden, are the voices of political experience, and two - Obama and Palin - have been catapulted to a shot at the glittering prizes because of race and gender. And now we know that Obama’s main advantage, his eloquence, has found a rival in Palin, not in poetic loftiness, but she has the ability to arouse passion, the kind that motivates people to action.

Obama/Ayers CommercialCofCC.org News Team
Obama team scrambles to stop new Obama/Ayers commercial.
From World Net Daily
Sen. Barack Obama is warning TV stations and asking the Justice Department to intervene in an attempt to block the airing of an ad by a non-profit group that links him to an unrepentant domestic terrorist.
The spot by the American Issues Project questions Obama’s ties to William Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground organization who boasted of a series of bomb attacks at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol four decades ago.
The Associated Press said Obama’s “going-for-the-jugular approach” was the kind of response many Democrats complained Sen. John Kerry lacked when he was confronted with the charges of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 presidential campaign.
But, as WND reported, Kerry actually took a similar approach. Instead of focusing on the Swift Boat Veterans’ specific claims, his campaign threatened lawsuits against the television stations that aired the group’s ads, demanded publisher Regnery pull the best-selling book “Unfit for Command,” attacked the character of co-authors John O’Neill and Jerome Corsi, and accused the independent group of being run by the Republican party. The Kerry campaign also waged a multi-pronged attack on the Sinclair Broadcast Group over its plan to air a documentary ” “Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal”, which featured former POWs telling how Kerry’s 1971 testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was used as propaganda against them by their North Vietnamese captors.

ANALYSIS: Sarah Palin and the Jewish VoteFrom the Jewish Journal

When Sen. John McCain tapped Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate today, the Jewish political blogosphere — as loud and fast and opinionated as (for lack of a better word) the Gentile Web — came to a screeching halt. After all, you can fight about John McCain, and Barack Obama, and Joe Biden . . .but Sarah Palin? Jews give money, Jews get involved, Jews shape opinion far out of proportion to their numbers. (Yes, there are only six of us in the entire country. Amazing what controlling the media will get you!)
If McCain had picked Mitt Romney or Tom Ridge or — cue the bar mitzvah band — Joe Lieberman, he would have unquestionably swept up the Israel Firsters. But he chose Sarah Palin: former mayor of a small Alaska town, governor of Alaska, devout Christian.
For Jews who are not necessarily Israel Firsters, she carries some positives and negatives. Negatives: She is is anti-abortion. Jews are among the largest pro-choice constituency in the country. She has, according to one web site, supported the idea of teaching Creationism and evolution in public schools.
The RJC’s Greenfield says her AIPAC relationships are great, but confined to Alaska. And Republicans are now marshalling a great comeback to the charge that Palin once supported Pat Buchanan. Buchanan is anathema to the Jews. He is someone who has blamed Israel and American Jews for directing American foreign policy against American interests. He has spoken kindly of Adolph Hitler — who is not popular with Jews — and, well, this is going to be interesting.

McCain makes surprise pick of woman governor for VPFrom AFP

DAYTON, Ohio (AFP) — Republican John McCain unveiled a major surprise in the White House race Friday with his pick of first woman governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, as his running-mate, campaign officials told AFP. A political outsider and relative unknown on the national stage, Palin, 44, a mother of five children, emerged late Thursday as the dark horse candidate for McCain’s vice-presidential nominee.
Palin, reportedly a former entrant in the Miss Alaska contest, could appeal to the Republican’s grassroots conservative base, as she is strongly pro-life and backs the gun lobby. As a young mother she would balance out concerns over McCain’s age who celebrated his 72nd birthday on Friday, and she could also be seen as a breath of fresh air, untainted by Washington politics.
Palin is the first woman to lead Alaska and is best known for aggressively pushing for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a key part of McCain’s energy policy. Palin would also help McCain maintain his image as a maverick outsider: she gained popularity as a crusading rebel and whistle blower against corruption among fellow Alaskan Republicans.
