Those who know me are too painfully aware of how much I like to talk politics. Sorry, my friends, but I can't help myself. Its my dream to find a job where I can get paid to give my opinions on the topic- I would love to have George Will, David Brooks, Howard Fineman, Joe Scarborough or Chris Matthews' job. Those are, consequentially, some of my favorites.
That short list of all-stars might surprise some, considering I am a "raving liberal." I do believe, however, that there is something to be said about thoughtful dissent and intelligent, well reasoned world views- about all subjects. I had a mini-debate with a new friend (won't EVEN get into the details of the debate), and one of the points I made concerned conservatives and their disdain for intellectualism. The very next day, David Brooks wrote a fantastic article with the very same conclusion I reached: click here
Oh, how I love it when smart people put my ideas out for the world! The basic premise is that conservatives are stupid, common and hate smart people with education. Of course, those words are really crude way of getting at my argument but the choice illustrates, by way of literary device, my point.
Last night the Palin report was posted, revealing whats been obvious all along. More Republican speak here (devoid of nuance): Palin is a hypocrite and political hack. The first screeching words out of her mouth were about the Bridge to Nowhere for "gosh darn it sakes!" Her whole premise- that she is a "maverick reformer" is so obviously debunked. She abused her power, not for some high minded, devious and complex gain, but to get back at her sister's baby's daddy in a divorce dispute! Todd Palin even took VIDEO TAPE of said ex-relative riding a snow mobile, supposedly proving that he was defrauding the worker's compensation system. I'm from the south and that screams RED NECK. You can take the bumpkins out of the sticks, put them in the governor's mansion (that being a generous term for the version of residence in Alaska) but you can't take the sticks out of the bumpkins.
And yes, I did choose the word "screeching." Supposedly, that indicates that I am a sexist according to Hillary Clinton. I am not even going to elaborate on what I think of her in this post, but suffice it to say that I would vehemently disagree with that. When a voice is shrill, male or female, it is, "gosh darn it" shrill. Finger nails down a chalk board are neither masculine or feminine!
Lastly, I want to note that the commission was approved by a Republican dominated legislature. It was also voted on before Palin became the VP nominee. She also agreed to cooperate before becoming the VP. Now that she is the VP, its suddenly a political witch hunt by supporters of Obama. Right- and "maverick reforms of political corruption" should get a few "gimmes" to use their new found powers to fire a few ex sister's baby daddies.
