So, the MSM (main stream media) is having a field day with Obama and his decision to move toward looking at a compromise regarding domestic offshore drilling. I agree with Obama's original stance that it should not be done, it won't help in the long-term and it puts our environment at unnecessary risk, but the folks that are not willing to look at the future unless we allow them to cling to the past are a part of our national family and I guess this whole thing is much the same dynamic that plays out in our personal families everyday.
Sometimes one has to admit that we cannot always have exactly what we desire in the exact way that we desire it exactly when we desire it.
We like to imagine ourselves never compromising on the things that are most important to us but the fact is everyone has to do that at times in order to ultimately move forward. Especially when it comes to matters that do not involve just ourselves.
We compromise with our brat little bothers.
We compromise with our misguided children.
We compromise with our parents and their fears for us.
and you can't kill 'em...well thankfully most of us still can't.
We compromise with our own pride.
We compromise with our own fear.
Living to fight another day through compromise is not weakness it is what moves the human race forward. Evolution moves on, and it moves on adversity as well as anything. A well considered compromise is at times the only way we can move everyone forward.
We are all citizens of this planet and one is no greater than the other except in their own mind and the mind of others. Our reality faithfully reflects that which we believe. There is no real basis for choosing one ideology over another unless we recognize this fundamental fact and look upon its creations and can honestly say that they are good for all concerned, including the natural world that we are the stewards of. That journey travels through compromise.
Now, I will tell you that I have no idea if the above is how Mr. Obama sees this issue or if he has some other reasoning in mind but I think it is pretty clear that the old school/old world among us are not going anywhere and we are going to have to ultimately work with them if we wish to see a better more peaceful world emerge out of present chaos. The truly great leaders of humanity have been those who understood this. Does Obama...I don't know, I guess we will see what he is made of won't we?
And no right-wingers...I have not decided he is the MESSIAH come to deliver us from you. I suspect we will continue to be working that out between ourselves on a personal level all over this country. I will try real hard to think of you as my bratty little brother or sister instead of the way things don't really have to be...unless of course it goes to the point of doing a "jimbo" on liberals... (as I have heard it described by those who agree with the Knoxville church shooters acts)... in such a case I think the most humane thing to do is dispatch these person/s to their maker without delay.
