As Rob Kall gently reminded in comments to one of my rants about Republicans, this non-partisan site is open to criticism of Democrats. In the spirit of being completely fair to both parties, let's do some comparison of Democratic policies and Republican policies and criticism of both.Democratic policies:
The Democrats passed legislation creating Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
Social Security. As set forth in HR 4120, Title 1, Sec 3, "Old age assistance shall mean financial assistance assuring a reasonable subsistence compatible with decency and health."
Social Security provides the elderly of retirement age a way to survive that they would otherwise not have. An added benefit of Social Security is that the funds provided are almost wholly spent on necessities, like food, shelter and clothing. This gives a large boost to the economy by putting that money back into circulation, keeping businesses going and providing employment for large segment of the population.
The Democrats passed legislation creating Medicare. This program provides medical care for those retired and on Social Security, that, again, they would not have otherwise. The program also re-circulates money back into the economy.
The Democrats passed legislation creating Medicaid. This program provides medical care for those who would otherwise not have access to it, due to not being able to afford it. This program also re-circulates money, keeping the economy running.
As can be seen, the Democrat's policy concerns are for the welfare of the poor, the old and the sick. As the original HR 4120 states above, it is about seeing to it that they have a life of decency and health.
Republican policies:
Republicans are against all of that.
Republican criticism:
Republicans are against all of that.
Democratic criticism:
Some Democrats go along with Republicans who are against all of that.
Note: As evidence that Republicans are against all of that, the programs mentioned above were passed by congress with almost 100% Republican opposition. Texas Congressman Ron Paul says that if elected president, he will kill Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
Ron Paul is a Republican.
