Cheney interview on Larry King Live 7/31/2007 had a certain dejavu quality about it

::::::::

On July 31, 2007, V.P. Cheney appeared on the Larry King Show. There was a certain dejavu quality about it all.

During the interview Cheney references to an article published July 30, 2007 in the NY Times that lends support to his perspectives regarding the war in Iraq:

A war we just might win
By Michael E. O'Hanlon and Kenneth M. Pollack

• On September 8, 2002 a similar thing occurred during an interview on "Meet the Press." Cheney referenced to an article that was published earlier that morning in the NY Times lending support to his allegations that Iraq was seeking "equipment...to be able to enrich uranium to make the bombs"

• During the interview Russert and Cheney discuss a litany of topics regarding 9-11 and by association links the threat of Iraq...Russert leads into Iraq with:

RUSSERT: Let me turn to the issue of Iraq. You have said that it poses a mortal threat to the United States....
RUSSERT: What, specifically, has he obtained that you believe would enhance his nuclear development program?
CHENEY: Well, in the nuclear weapons arena...he now is trying, through his illicit procurement network, to acquire the equipment he needs to be able to enrich uranium to make the bombs.
RUSSERT: Aluminum tubes.
CHENEY: Specifically aluminum tubes. There's a story in The New York Times this morning-this is-I don't-and I want to attribute The Times. I don't want to talk about, obviously, specific intelligence sources, but it's now public that, in fact, he has been seeking to acquire..."

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 - More than a decade after Saddam Hussein agreed to give up weapons of mass destruction, Iraq has stepped up its quest for nuclear weapons and has embarked on a worldwide hunt for materials to make an atomic bomb, Bush administration officials said today...

• A "buttress" article appears in the NY Times on Sept 13, 2002 also written by Miller and Gordon:

New York Times

By JUDITH MILLER and MICHAEL R. GORDON
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/09/13/international/middleeast/13ARMS.html

Seeking to buttress the case for military action against Iraq, the Bush administration published a brief paper yesterday outlining what it says are efforts by Saddam Hussein to develop chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, and the missiles to deliver them...

• So is this an old dog using old tricks?

• Since the Brookings Institute is a private nonprofit "liberal think tank" in Washington DC, the question becomes; who funded-commissioned-donated for the 8 day vacation for O'Hanlon and Pollack and subsequent article "A war we just might win"? http://www.brook.edu/index/about.htm

• Perhaps today's Letter to the Editor by Paul Justison "Missing cold, hard facts in 'good news' article" provides some clues?

• Misleading quotes, leading up to the war:

He (Saddam) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors. So in effect, our policies have strengthened the security of the neighbors of Iraq..."
