Happy Solstice! December 21st is the northern hemisphere winter solstice with the longest night of the year. The 22nd will begin the lengthening of the day, but it will be several weeks before the sunset will be noticeably later and sunrise earlier.
The sun appears in the lowest, most southern position at this time of year and it’s movement back to the northern degrees have been celebrated for thousands of years. The forms of celebration are less varied than might be expected. But then again, perhaps the stories of light and dark are universal.
