We have met da enemy and da is us!
This wise statement was said by Pogo 60 years ago and seems to be holding true today. It was only 3 days ago that we saw history being made, with the election of Barack Obama. There was celebration all over the world, with thousands of people crowding the streets, Kenya making Nov. 4th a national holiday, some of us with tears in our eyes, and a feeling that at last, the miserable dirty days of the Bush Administration were almost over. Now 3 days later, I read the usual negative comments from the predictable group that is always negative, that never has much to offer and many times are just poly parroting someone else’s rhetoric. If you will notice, the same comments have been “copied and pasted” on more than one article. But, I also see some people that have added to the conversation, published thoughtful and well thought out articles, demanding immediate action on their particular area of interest, critizing his first appointment, screaming for this and that and I think Pogo got it right.
Just which is the biggest priority? The economy, the war in Iraq, health care, education, the prosecution of Bush, the debt, environment, or the energy debate. If you have a child in Iraq, it may be you are most interested in seeing the troops brought home. If you have no job, then maybe you would like to see progress on the economy; for my friend Nick, who will live only a few more weeks-----none of the above. We all have things that we hope will get changed but it will not happen quickly. To begin attacking Obama before he even gets started is simply not going to be productive. There are enough “empty heads”, jerks, nay sayers, and fools to do all the attacks needed, so for me, I say let us all that have hoped to see this day, give President-elect Obama a chance to get his game plan in place. Why come so far, to only let impatience destroy what we have gained. Step back, take a deep breath, we have 74 days before he is the new president.
