Tap dancing is not a lost art. I just watched ten Republican candidates for President tap dance around issues with skill akin to Tim Molloy or Eleanor Powell. However I did learn one important thing…I don’t like conservatives.
They appear to be indifferent to anyone other than their kind. The great mass of Americans means little or nothing to them. This does not mean that all Republicans are conservatives, but conservatives control the Republican Party. If moderate Republicans, none of which seemed to be on stage, can’t reclaim their party Democrats deserve to take office.
The goals of the Republicans in power are not good for the country they are paid to serve. They have us mired in debt. They have us mired in a war. They have us mired in a failed judicial system. They have us mired in a failed war on drugs. They have us battling to protect our Constitutional rights. They wire tap us without warrants. They are allowed to imprison us without charges or benefit of council.
I saw not one candidate that I felt was good for America. In watching the Democrat candidates on an earlier evening I saw several that I felt had our best interests in mind. I particularly preferred John Edwards. I saw no Republicans on that stage that were worthy of carrying his briefcase!! Conservative values are too damn bloodthirsty for me!!
2008 will be the most important Presidential election, possibly, in our country’s history. Assuming that ballots will be counted, and that the demand for a paper trail will prevail, it behooves us all to go to the polls.
Every American who feels that God does not bless torture and rendition must vote. Every American who respects medical science should vote. Every American concerned with the need for improved national health care should vote. Every American that wishes we had an independent system of justice should vote. Every American who wishes lower cost prescription drugs should vote. Every American who wishes the “good old days” were still possible should vote.
Not a single of the above classes of voters should vote for a Conservative candidate. Moderation in all things is what we need, not more of the same. More of the same just works for the wealthiest, most conservative among us. That, my friends, is a very, very small percentage of the electorate.
2008 is drawing near. Register, become informed, and save your civil liberties by casting a vote!!
