The new law, the terms of which were detailed by the British newspaper the Independent on January 7, makes a mockery of any claims of Iraqi sovereignty and underscores that the real aim of the bloody enterprise by US imperialism has been to colonize the country and seize some of the largest untapped oil resources left on the globe. The language of the new law-which is expected to be approved by the Iraqi parliament any day and put into place by March-was written by a US consulting firm hired by the Bush administration and presented to the major oil companies and the International Monetary Fund during the summer. As of December, many if not most Iraqi parliamentary members had still not seen the legislation. He has blamed Iran for attacks on America. The President is vowing to disrupt Iran. He is going to add an aircraft carrier to the shores off the coast of Iran. He has promised to give Patriot missiles to 'our friends and allies.' Isn't one war enough for this President? It is time the media and the Congress began to pay attention to this President when he talks aggressively about Iran and Syria. "It is imperative that Congress step up to its constitutional responsibility to restrain this abuse of executive authority by notifying the President that we will no longer agree to fund the war in Iraq. The supplemental budget request of up to $100 billion would enable the president not only to continue the war against Iraq through the end of his term. It would give him the resources to attack Iran, in the name of defending Iraq and the region." "In Iraq, his new plan is a plan for more door-to-door fighting, more civil war, more civilian casualties, more troop deaths, more wasted money, more destabilization in the region and more separation from the world community. The .1% is Dennis Kucinich and Russ Feingold. They're the only two who are calling for immediate, unconditional withdrawal and cutting funds OFF NOW! The unHoly Trinity EXCERPT: You can bet your last dollar that the Bush admin neocons and Cheney have been whispering in Dubya's ear that he can salvage his presidential legacy by keeping the troops in Iraq until he leaves office; that way, in Bush's mind, history will blame the Democrats for losing the war in Iraq. Cheney opposes the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq because it would curtail Halliburton's multi-billion dollar contracts and forfeit U.S. control of Iraqi oil. Cheney's companies have been using American soldiers as their security force. With America's backing Israel was a rising military power whose policies and existence were viewed as a threat by Arab countries. That is, the third largest reserves in the world are about to be fed to the Western oil lions under another sell-out law that the Iraqi Parliament will vote on in days. Of course, the US government had a grease-stained hand in drawing up the law, a draft of which the NZ Herald got to see early on.
