In a shot over President George W. Bush's bow, Conyers said that Bush likes to fire military advisors, who tell him he can't win the war, but "he can't fire you [the people]. He can't fire us [the Congress], but 'we can fire him.'"

DIANE'S NEWS CLIPS begins here :)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> Excerpted from: http://www.afterdowningstreet.org Rep. John Conyers: "CONGRESS CAN FIRE BUSH!" By William Hughes "It's so irresponsible that they can't be quiet." - William Kristol, a Neocon, in referring to critics of the Iraqi War. (1) ...Excerpt: "Our government needs to get the message: Out of Iraq, immediately." Conyers is the new Chair of the House's Judiciary Committee. This is the committee which has jurisdiction over any possible impeachment proceedings. In a shot over President George W. Bush's bow, Conyers said that Bush likes to fire military advisors, who tell him he can't win the war, but "he can't fire you [the people]. He can't fire us [the Congress], but 'we can fire him.'" With that line a roar went up in the audience. The loud chant began: "Impeach Bush!" The Chairlady of the House of Representatives' "Out of Iraq Caucus," Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), also ripped into Bush. She said: "My name is Maxine Waters and I'm not afraid of George W. Bush. My name is Maxine Waters and I'm not intimidated by Dick Cheney. My name is Maxine Waters and I helped to get [Donald] Rumsfeld fired. My name is Maxine Waters and Connie Rice is nothing but another Neocon and she doesn't represent me. George W. Bush led us into this immoral war. He tricked the American people... He did not tell the truth...Bush says he is 'the decider,' but you know what? He's not 'the decider. He's 'the liar...'I will not vote one dime for this war...Bring the troops home." Waters said some Congress people are only paying "lip service" to the antiwar cause. That comment struck home with me. .......................snip........................ According to an expert on the Middle East, Lt. Gen. William E. Odom, USA, Retired, the ex-director of the National Security Agency, the Iraqi War can not be won "militarily." He calls it "a disaster." As long as the U.S. is in Iraq, he says, Al Qaeda will benefit and "grow stronger." (6) Full article: http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/node/17830 ----- William Kristol needs to be RICO'D & tried for tax evasion ...William Kristol is the PNAC President that cooked up this warmongering "think tank" Iraq War plot long before 9/11. This organization and others like it (AEI, CLI, IASPS etc) that promote and conspire mass murder of other peoples need to be RICO'd and have their assets taken away from them for posing as tax-exempt "Non-Profit Organizations". NPO's are supposed to be charities and community services, NOT fronts for NeoCON mafia-type mass murder machines. [snip] VIDEO >> http://snipurl.com/1b3jg http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/node/17830 ----- AP article omits who can fire whom My attention was recently directed to an AP article covering the demonstration with glaring omissions from the content of Conyers' speech. As you can see at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070127/ap_on_re_us/iraq_protest_16 the article quotes Conyers saying that "George Bush has a habit of firing military leaders who tell him the Iraq war is failing," and "He can't fire you" and "He can't fire us," but Conyers' statement that "we can fire him" is left out. In fact, the article doesn't give the slightest indication, of what I understand Conyers' major theme to have been: Bush should be impeached! To contact AP about their omission you can go to: http://snipurl.com/1b3na http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/node/17830#comment-80491 _________________________________ .ron corvuswire@verizon.net ...Impeachment: Breaking the Dam in Olympia, Washington Excerpt: "The crowd at the arts center had come to attend an event organized by the Citizens Movement to Impeach Bush/Cheney, a local ad hoc citizens' organization in this little burg that had convinced the local city council to make the 1000-seat auditorium available for a hearing on impeachment. When I and my two co-speakers, CIA veteran Ray McGovern and former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega, came out on the stage, we all felt not like political speakers or authors, but like rock stars. The applause was deafening, not just at the start of the program, but after each speaker's points were made. ..........................snip....................... McGovern told the crowd that the administration had destroyed the CIA, preferring "faith-based" to real, hard-nosed intelligence. With the angry intensity of a man who has given nearly 30 years of service to the government only to see it trashed by a know-nothing, criminal administration, he suggested that impeachment was the best way to bring the War in Iraq to an end and to prevent the launching of yet another illegal war-this time against Iran. De la Vega, a veteran federal prosecutor, and author of a new book, The U.S. v. Bush, which imagines a grand jury investigation and indictment of the president and vice president on a charge of fraud, laid out the case that the Bush administration has in essence been a criminal syndicate defrauding the American public on a scale far worse than Enron. Meanwhile, she said, the Congress, the media and the American public have, like the Queens neighbors of stabbing victim Kitty Genovese, averted their eyes from the crime. http://www.thiscantbehappening.net/2007.02.01_arch.html#1172265659889 _________________________________ Submitted by: http://madams12@earthlink.net HOW THE SENATE VOTED ON CLUSTER BOMBS! http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-6435402,00.html The bill was " To protect civilian lives from unexploded cluster munitions," Sept. 2006, after Israel had dropped a million cluster bombs on Lebanon. At the heart of the debate are accusations - spearheaded by the US - that Iran is secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons. Most of the tip-offs about supposed secret weapons sites provided by the CIA and other US intelligence agencies have led to dead ends when investigated by International Atomic Energy Agency, inspectors. "Most of it has turned out to be incorrect," a diplomat at the IAEA with detailed knowledge of the agency's investigations said. --- Naomi Klein | A Trial for Thousands Denied Trial http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307P.shtml Naomi Klein writes, "Something remarkable is going on in a Miami courtroom. The cruel methods US interrogators have used since September 11 to 'break' prisoners are finally being put on trial. This was not supposed to happen. The Bush Administration's plan was to put José Padilla on trial for allegedly being part of a network linked to international terrorists. But Padilla's lawyers are arguing that he is not fit to stand trial because he has been driven insane by the government." --- Al-Jazeera Cameraman Still at Guantanamo http://www.truthout.org/issues_06/022307LA.shtml Sami al-Hajj, of the Al-Jazeera TV network, has been held in Guantanamo Bay since December 2001. He is believed to be the only journalist from a major international news organization held at Guantanamo. --- Senator Patrick Leahy: The War in Iraq http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307K.shtml Remarks of US Senator Patrick Leahy: "As one who, for years, has fought for veterans' benefits, for fair treatment for the National Guard, for armor for our troops who were sent into battle unprepared, and for replacing the depleted stocks of essential equipment that our troops need and depend on, the absurd accusation that it is unpatriotic to disagree with a policy that has resulted in the deaths of thousands of American soldiers and created a terrorist haven in a country that before posed no threat to the United States, has worn thin." --- US-Russia Tensions Rise Over Anti-Missile Bases http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307A.shtml Russia has threatened to withdraw from INF missile treaty, and target proposed US bases in Poland, Czech Republic. --- Families Behind Bars: Jailing Children of Immigrants http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307L.shtml "It's just a concentration camp by another name," says John Wheat Gibson, a Dallas attorney. In the T. Don Hutto Correctional Center in Taylor, Texas there have been reports of inadequate healthcare and nutrition. "The kids are getting sick from the food," says Frances Valdez, a fellow at the University of Texas Law School's Immigration Law Clinic. "It could be a psychological thing also. These are little kids, given only one hour of playtime a day, the rest of the time they're in their pods in a contained area." There are only a few people per cell so families are separated at night and children are sick but parents cannot go to them. --- States Are Running Out of Health Dollars http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307M.shtml States are warning that hundreds of thousands of poor children could lose their health insurance if Congress doesn't act soon to come through with more money for the program. Many states have nearly used up their annual federal subsidy for child health care, and it is not even midway through the fiscal year. Some blame a flawed formula of doling out money by Washington and funding based on outdated census data. Congress has been unwilling so far to deliver more money. --- For Guard Units, A Sooner Than Expected Return to Iraq http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307N.shtml The Pentagon is planning to send more than 14,000 National Guard troops back to Iraq next year, shortening their time between deployments to meet the demands of Bush's troop escalation. --- High Court Asked to Explore Contractor Liability for Deaths in Iraq http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307O.shtml --- Jason Leopold | Cheney's Role Dominates Closing Arguments at Libby Trial http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307R.shtml --- Nicholas D. Kristof | Bush and Cheney Owe an Explanation http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307B.shtml Nicholas D. Kristof writes: "One way or another, the Scooter Libby trial will soon be over. Whatever the verdict, President Bush and Vice President Cheney owe the American people a candid explanation of what went on in that period in the White House." >> NOTE from Diane: Regarding the above mentioned Bush-Cheney-due-the-American-people explanation. WHY would ANYONE want "explanation" from these two psychopathic liars; for what purpose? The horse left that barn waaay long ago. Forget it, impeach these traitors; give me a break. : c --- Study: Bias by the Billions in Flawed Ed Program http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307C.shtml Reading First is a multi-billion-dollar grant program that was supposed to boost reading efforts for underachieving young students. It has been plagued with accusations of bias, improper political influence and fraud. The Education Department's inspector general has mounted six separate investigations into the matter, and lawmakers have called for hearings to look into the program. --- Murtha Sees Security Threat in Trade Deal http://snipurl.com/1b5kh --- Millions of Americans Living in Severe Poverty http://snipurl.com/1b5kk --- AP: Nearly 800 Iraq Contractors Killed http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/022307S.shtml In a largely invisible cost of the war in Iraq, nearly 800 civilians working under contract to the Pentagon have been killed and more than 3,300 hurt, according to figures gathered by the Associated Press. --- Joshua Frank | Cleaning Up Greenpoint's Oil Spill http://www.truthout.org/issues_06/022307EA.shtml "You have to wonder why it has taken so long. It happened over 57 years ago, when Exxon Mobil leaked at least 17 million gallons of oil in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint," writes Joshua Frank. "But on February 8th, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo finally filed notices of intent to sue Exxon Mobil and several other companies to force a massive cleanup of the polluted neighborhood," Frank continues. --- World Bank Encouraging Deforestation http://snipurl.com/1b653 --- Global Warming "Makes Children Sick" http://snipurl.com/1b656 --- Sexualization of Girls in the Media Is Harmful http://snipurl.com/1b657 _________________________________ http://BBurkett16@aol.com ... Bill Burkett: WHERE THERE'S SMOKE ... In which lifetime has anyone known peanut butter to cause Salmonella? Shouldn't a quality control point or inspection station have caught this? Nope -- there isn't one. It's the honor system, the same one that allows polluters to police themselves. It's deregulation at a peak and called Reaganism, yet Ronald Reagan's most quoted quote is: "Trust, but verify." That's a contradiction, isn't it? Two schools of thought here and already we see the division of America being exposed. The first is that the doctors and health officials who diagnosed the outbreak of Salmonella from peanut butter were on target. Good God, my own wife had two peanut butter sandwiches from a jar that I bought at Wal Mart about four weeks ago and she was sick for seven days and still can't hold food. Before this awful fraud called a War in Iraq was authorized by Congress, I wrote in a series of articles and gave documented evidence using the Department of the Army's own planning factors that there was no sound justification for the 'preemptive' invasion of another land - because all of the reasons for 'preemptive action' were bogus. I was right. But leave it to a bunch of folks that the wise 30% speak of as "rag heads" or some other epithet that really shows their own ignorance, rather than a smaller or less significant stature of their target as intended. Certainly the press releases leading us to Iraq ALL DENIED we were in it for the oil. Now extend that to Iran. We asked then, was it a Holy War or an oil war? The answer was "democratization," once the original reasons fell apart with a small amount of scrutiny. It was a lie then, and we now have the Iraqi workers and unions standing up to their own government to expose oil compacts that allow American oil companies to literally rape the very country these same press releases so claimed deserved "democracy." The fact of the documents that have now been leaked are the four major oil companies, (two from Great Britian and two from the US,) will be able to rake off 75% of all oil profits from the Iraqi oil fields for themselves - in perpetuity. Heck of a deal, Huh? We use our buddy "Dick" to instigate a false connection, who uses Scooter to out and demonize anyone who challenges him based upon fact rather than fabrication; we invade a sovereign nation and demean everything about it's society, religion and way of life, (facts we never attempt to respect or understand). We occupy the country long enough to stand up a token government and then rake off the profits of its only true natural resource other than its people. That's "democratization?" No, that's the American Way. Priceless? No, Shameless! Some say we have to take back our country and re-establish values. Believe it or not that's what both sides say. But who among us is willing to fight the real demon in Iraq - our own greed as reflected by our own corporations? Maybe it's time the American worker who has been left without protections also side with the Iraqi worker who just got a good dose of American capitalism gone without regulation, control or conscience. The oilfields of Iraq belong to the Iraqi's. It's their wealth. Certainly we are vulnerable to their product, and it's our own fault, not their's. In 1977, President Carter faced the same vulnerability of a shortage of oil. I just happened to have worked some in that effort. Ronald Reagan dismissed the effort and the problem and yet didn't really provide answers - just more rhetoric. Of course by then, the Carter actions had worked to break the back of the false shortages by reducing demand. We developed old technologies like solar and wind alternatives and they worked as long as they were facing higher priced oil and natural gas. We didn't notice that also within the following decade, the savings rate of Americans increased again - the first such increase in well over twenty years. But once we, as a people and economy became lazy and spoiled again and began to drive the suburbans and SUVs, we again faced the fact that we consumed more than we could produce. This isn't a new problem. It's an old one. The problem that causes the vulnerability is rooted within the very faith that we say we are a nation under - Christianity. And the problems are the sins of greed and sloth. I can't say that the Jewish faith is dismissed from this, because it would be considered anti-Semitic. But it is alright to say that Christians are guilty of these sins, so I will. I'll let all other faiths, and the non-believers just watch and blame it on us until they recognize that you can't talk about it and blame it on everyone else. You must take responsibility personally. So until we face the reality and do something that changes the way we power ourselves - like moving away from the internal combustion engine - we will be vulnerable. For some reason, this is the first time in American history that we seem frozen in fear. "What, frozen in fear?" Frozen in fear would mean Iraqi workers fearing so much, that they let the Americans who occupy their nation, get away with oil and economic rape, wouldn't it? I'm an old man, now. I've seen a lot in my day. Mostly I see that everyone has a motive, and everyone has a price. This war had it's motive and none were the motives advertised. I have my ideas about what the motives were since I know a lot of these hooligans in the White House and the administration. That's another story. That's "inside baseball." What happens now is what's important. The decision of whether we stop the war or not will take a series of actions over several months that are extremely important. You can't put this genie back in the bottle and retrace our steps of fraud and lies that brought us here. There are just too many dead bodies both American and Iraqi for that. We can't let it happen and certainly we must stop the stupidity of it all. If the ordinary American really believes in giving the Iraqi people a chance to improve their plight, seeking democracy, then we have an obligation to help save them from our own brand of Americanism and the net rape of the Iraqi people's future by corrupt government - our's, not their's - and corrupt business. At some point, the old axiom "it's just business" becomes a way to justify immoral and unethical acts. That's an old man's viewpoint on democratization and responsibility as an occupying power.
