WASHINGTON (Reuters) - House of Representatives Democratic leader Steny Hoyer is suggesting President George W. Bush go on national television to explain the need for the administration's proposed $700 billion financial rescue plan....
Rumor has it that the speech below was prepared by President Bush for a possible nationwide television address. It was accidentally found in the trash of the Office of the Vice President. The authenticity can't be verified but experts on the President's writing and speaking style say that it could have been written by Bush.
See the first draft of his Nationwide speech below.
My fellow Americans I come to you tonight to, you know, say that there is a big problemo. You see a bunch of my rich friends and supporters are having a lot of trouble because they took you, er, I mean, the American people for a ride. The housing market crashed and all of these bad loans that once made my rich buddies a lot of money were sold as part of some package or other. Now my rich friends and supporters could lose on these deals.
But you see now they are having this problem because there is not enough liquid in the market. So the other day, my buddies all poured themselves a lot of liquid and came up with a plan to rescue themselves and have you pay for it. Now I know some of you are saying it ain't right having to pay for the shady business practices of my rich friends and supporters. Some of you are thinkin that my rich buddies made a lot of money and that they should lose because of their risky, unethical, and possibly illegal business practices.
Well that ain't the American way and as an American President, proud of his country, I am telling you tonight that we need to help those in need. So my needy rich buddies need some help here. Let's win one for the Glipper.
Dear Mr. Cheney,
Here is the first draft of my speech for my nationwide TV address. Please rewrite and have the speech writers correct the errors. Let me know what you want me to say.
Thanks,
GW
