David Brooks' definition of genocide is met by what we have done in Iraq

::::::::

First, there is this, from TomPaine

The 'Genocide' Card

Submitted by Rick Perlstein on July 30, 2007 - 10:44am.

Increasingly, the preferred argument of the Forever Caucus is that if we leave Iraq there will be "genocide," as surely as dandelions follow a spring rain.

Here David Brooks shamefullly invents up a number ("10,000 Iraqi deaths a month...a tough moral issue").

===============
And here is what Brooks said

crooksandliars.com/2007/07/23

MR. WOODWARD: And the problem, though, is, we don’t know. People can say, “Oh, it’s going to be a disaster.”

MR. BROOKS: Uh-huh.

MR. WOODWARD: I mean, you cite numbers which you have pulled out of the air of 10,000 dying. I mean, that’sthatwhere does that come from?

MR. BROOKS: Well, A, it comes from John Burns. Second, it comes from the national intelligence…

MR. WOODWARD: Well, no, he doesn’t say 10,000.

MR. BROOKS: Well, no, no, but it talks about genocide.

MR. WOODWARD: Yeah.

MR. BROOKS: So I just picked that 10,000 out of the air.

So what is the conclusion? OK -- there some 700,000 to one million excess deaths in Iraq since the invasion, something over 4 years ago. That's roughly 200,000 per year -- 20 times Brooks' number. OK, then: the US has committed genocide in Iraq -- so let's not call what going on the Iraq war, or even the Iraq occupation: it's the Iraq genocide! David Brooks 'says so'!

If the neocons want to play the 'genocide card' then they have already busted their hand with it by committing actual genocide in Iraq.
As Mr. Perlstein says at the end of his article "My God, even the notional figure David Brooks has just pulled out of his posterior is less than that. Our conservatives can't even imagine a more humane outcome than exists now when they try to come up with propaganda."
So it's official and neocon approved -- it's the Iraqi genocide the US has committed, and we shaould call it that. (Thank's David....)

Been around the block a few times.
