::::::::
I started making beer this summer, making up my own receipes, and they have all turned out excellant, (my husband says it's in my genes) so I just brewed up a batch of beer in his honor: Obama Victory Brew, made with pumpkin water, dark malt extract, Chocolate malt grain, Hibiscus flowers (for energy and Hawaii!) corn sugar and Liberty Hops, to be primed with a bit of honey.
....Felt just like a sorceress stirring up her witches' brew of Hope and Good Thoughts, trying to conjure up a brighter future!
Obama Victory Brew
Start by crushing 1 lb of Chocolate roasted Barley in a towel,
(Beating it with a rolling pin will do!)
Boil this up in 2 quarts water,(I used water I had cooked my Halloween pumkins in) simmering for 5 minutes.
In another 2 Quarts water, brew up 1 cup dried Hibiscus flowers, packed, also 5 minutes after boil.
Strain both liquids into the brewkettle and add one 3.3 can of unhopped Dark malt extract and 3 cups Corn sugar, stirring frequently to dissolve.
Brew another 5 min after it comes up to a boil,
then stir in a 1 oz package of Liberty hop pellets and brew an additional 5 minutes.
Pour into 4 gallons cold water in the fermenting vessel and sprinkle
1 pkg of brewing yeast on top (Munton's is good)
Attach sealed lid and airlock and let stand at 70 degrees one week.
Pour carefulling into a secondary vessel or carbouy, leaving most of the sediment on the bottom, allow this to settle, up to another day before bottling.
Before bottling into sterile capable bottles, stir in 3/4 cup Honey that has been heated and dissolved in 1 cup water, to "prime".
Allow bottles to stand 1 week at 70 degrees, then move to a cooler spot and try to wait another 2 weeks to drink it.
THIS is the hard part!
Enjoy the fruits of your labor and our Hope!
