It's a rare thing for one person to be so wroGn that you have to give them an award. Today, Trent Franks is that man.
At a town hall meeting with his constituents this last Saturday, Rep. Franks not only questioned whether Barack Obama was born in the United States - and is therefore a Natural Born Citizen, and eligible for the Presidency - but said he might actually bring a lawsuit forward to force the President to produce his birth certificate.
Franks said there was not enough evidence that Obama is not an American citizen. He did say there was a lot of conflicting evidence of Obama's citizenship and that he was considering filing a lawsuit, the only congressman to do so. Franks asked why the president did not simply produce a birth certificate.
Of course, those of you who've been paying attention - and not given to believe in stupid, time-wasting political sideshows - may be laughing right now.
But wait! It gets better.
Because not more than a month ago, this exact same Trent Franks said the exact opposite thing!
"I believe Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, stayed within the United States and, therefore, is a constitutionally natural-born citizen of this country," Franks told (firedoglake's) Mike Stark.
"I'll be quite honest with you," Franks continued. "When the information came to us that there were a lot of questions, it was very fascinating information. My office did some in-depth research. And we found birth records in the newspapers in Hawaii that couldn't possibly have been forged. That's my perspective, that you can't go back and rewrite those."
And it gets better still! He wants to bring a lawsuit against the President to make him provide a birth certificate, when he already has? Is this the same Trent Franks who was a sponsor of the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act of 2004?
Why yes, it is!
