"The death penalty is the ultimate denial of human rights. It is the premeditated and cold-blooded killing of a human being by the state. This cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment is done in the name of justice. It violates the right to life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all cases without exception regardless of the nature of the crime, the characteristics of the offender, or the method used by the state to kill the prisoner."

Instead of executions, we should be doing life in prison without parole for murderers. The death penalty is too likely to be based on a false conviction, too racist in its application, and too violent an example to set for society. If every murder creates a right to murder, there is only more death in our future. It doesn't deter crime any more than life without parole.
Obama and McCain: you need to change your positions on the death penalty. Be pro-life, pro-reason, and pro-nonviolence.
We can have justice for victims and safety for society through non-violent solutions. The world is seeing the light of these and similar arguments. More than 90 countries around the world have already abolished the death penalty and tens more have done so in practice but not in law.
When you make a mistake at trial and execute someone there's no going back.
