At the last Democratic debate Barack Obama said he did not ask for Louis Farrakhan's endorsement, and that he did rejected it.
Butting in where she should have kept her mouth shut, Hillary Clinton said Obama should "denounce" the Nation of Islam leader, giving Obama the opportunity to counterpunch and hit her squarely in the jaw with the perfect zinger:
"But if the word 'reject' Senator Clinton feels is stronger than the word 'denounce,' then I'm happy to concede the point. And I would reject and denounce," he said, giving rise to much laughter and applause from the audience.
At the time there was a minor reference to Obama's long-time spiritual advisor, who recently retired as leader of Trinity Unity Church of Christ after 36 years, Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.
No longer is that tidbit of info relegated to an inference of outrageous comments. The drivel Wright has spewed from the pulpit and lecterns is all over the airwaves, casting doubt on Obama's judgement of spiritual advisorness.
If Obama had to fire Samantha Power, an unpaid advisor to his campaign, immediately after she told a British newspaper Hillary Clinton is a monster [bitch would have been more apt], then Obama must immediately reject! denounce! and completely separate himself and his family from any ties with Wright.
It will be extremely difficult for him to alibi and excuse his way out of his years of association with Wright, and even harder to explain how he could have exposed his two impressionable young daughters to Wright's ravings.
It's one thing for an adult to cut through the crap and see it for what it is, but it's impossible for children to do. Children are literalists; they don't comprehend subtleties or nuance.
Once I trusted Obama's judgement. After all, how could anyone who knew that all of Bush's warring against Iraq was baloney from the git-go as I did, not be trusted?
Now I'm distrusting my own judgement in trusting Obama's judgement.
