Treason: - noun 1. The offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign. 2. Violation of allegiance to one’s sovereign or to one’s state. 3. The betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
Here’s what YOUR government thinks of YOUR opinion on the bail-out:
“The House of Representatives is currently experiencing an extraordinarily high amount of e-mail traffic. The Write Your Representative function is therefore intermittently available. While we realize communicating to your Members of Congress is critical, we suggest attempting to do so at a later time, when demand is not so high. System engineers are working to resolve this issue and we appreciate your patience.”
This is obviously the work of some prankster hacker, right? This can’t be for real.
Well, believe it. Sort of.
It would appear that Congress is worried more about a POTENTIAL crash of their email server than letting the voice of the people be heard regarding the VERY REAL and seemingly IMMINENT crash of the American economy. Now, that would be enough to get any red-blooded American up in arms, right?
But it’s more insidious than that. It’s not a matter of choosing one very unpleasant option over another. Rather, it’s that the former is an obvious lie (concern over a system crash) and the latter is tantamount to treason (your government has taken measures to physically/electronically prevent your voice from being heard, as guaranteed by the Constitution).
In other words, “Yes, we here in Washington know you’re all pissed off. It’s just that we don’t really have any interest whatsoever in hearing about it. But, don’t worry. Everything’s OK. Your ‘representatives’ have everything under control. So, just shut up, don’t ask questions, and enjoy your freedom.”
What the hell is going on here? Is this a dream? What’s happened to this country? What’s happened to democracy? What’s happened to our republic?
Democracy. The Republic. Freedom. I’m afraid these are all fictions. Catch phrases. Slogans. Illusions foisted upon the ignorant masses to keep people from asking too many questions and to quell dissent.
Faust author, Goethe, said it best, “None are more helplessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.”
So, how’s about another heaping helping of freedom, my fellow citizens?
If they won’t listen now, they’ll have to listen eventually. So, when the voting’s done and the House email servers “miraculously” come back online to full capacity, open up the floodgates then, and demand that your voice be heard.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that some of our elected officials still have a soul. It’s up to us to plague the conscience of every congressperson who voted away our sovereignty in this bazillion dollar-plus cash-grab of, by, and for their masters on Wall Street and at the Fed.
An exercise in futility? Perhaps. But, I fear it may be all we have left in this tattered republic.
