Glenn and I are kinda like blood brothers, well...at least here at opednews -- he is what got me participating here. In my perpetually deluded state of pathetically exaggerated self-importance: I know that I changed Glenn's life and evidently my consistently shrill, ragged voice ultimately caused him to admit his on air venality.
A couple of days ago on FOX he waxed introspective about his time as one of Murdock's many faux journalists. He regrets being a divider instead of a uniter. This is only plausible as an actual confession if we all pretend that he simply went home and brewed beer after leaving FOX. But of course he didn't. He has assiduously continued performing his shtick as Glenn Beck "The Rampant Fool" on his very own network, The Blaze. He is not a stupid man. There is most definitely some remunerative motive to his confession. Beck, like Limbaugh, (Bill O'Reilly is too stupid to really know why he does what he does) does what he does for the money.
What is truly sad about all of this is that so many consider Glenn as some type of social and political savant. Ironically, Glenn Beck is a poster child as the natural and logical spawn of unfettered, free market capitalism -- the fourth estate conclusively co-opted by money. He is the avatar of perverted free speech in the hands of a well-funded demagogic enterprise.
Glenn could be a force for change and possible good if he would either run his tongue through a garbage disposal or honestly repent, shut down his empire and ask his destructive cohorts to do the same. I doubt it, but who knows, maybe he's made enough money and wants to try-out for the Yankees or become a philanthropic porn star. Sadly, there is not enough profanity and vitriol that can honestly be thrown at this man for what he has contributed to the destruction of civil community in this country.
He can and will be forgiven if he honestly repents. The irony of all of the "Christian" right wing talking heads like Glenn and Limbaugh is that they don't really understand Christianity. They mistakenly believe their voices to be the protectors and promoters of the Body of Christ. However, they conveniently choose which body parts to protect and promote, wantonly denying that the body in question is the entire body, all of us.
