This is a preliminary poll I intend to conduct this week or next. I want to keep it simple, but still get the ideas of our youth. It will be done on the college campus I attend. Any suggestions as to further questions or a better way of asking them?I am in the process of writing a research paper on what the current college age generation feels are the most important issues facing them presently, and into the future. I wonder if too little attention is being paid to this generation, and am interested in just what it is you feel is important. There appears to be very little research available in this area, so I would appreciate your help by answering the following questions. Essentially, what I am trying to determine is if the issues considered important today on the whole, are also those issues you find important, or are issues which you believe should have more attention paid to them being ignored? If you could set the agenda for change, what changes, if any, would you make? Feel free to add any comments you feel are applicable on the back of this questionnaire.
The first three questions are the same as those often asked on national polls, but not separated out by age groups, so will be used by way of comparison to the national averages. They are also dealing with current issues and concerns.
1. "Generally speaking, would you say things in this country are heading in the right direction, or are they off on the
wrong track?" (Circle One)
Right Direction Wrong Direction Unsure.
2. "What do you think is the most important problem facing this country today?" Open-ended
3. "In your view, what one or two issues should be the top priorities for the President and Congress to deal with at
this time?" Open-ended
For the rest of the questions, I'm interested in what you are most concerned with thinking into your future. As you graduate, enter the workplace, have families, and become active within your communities, what issues are important to you; what changes to you believe need to be made; and where should the focus of the nation as a whole be directed?
4. "What do you believe is the most important issue in your future; one that you feel needs to be addressed? This can
be in the area of social, political, cultural, economic, or behavioral categories." Open ended.
5. "List any other issues you feel are important other than that listed in question # 4 above." Open ended.
6. "For those issues listed in questions #4 and #5 above, do you feel these issues are overall:" (Circle One)
being addressed currently not being addressed currently unsure.
