Dear President Obama:
After your short term in office we see all this terrible media giving play to the Republican grandstanding and everything about you is portrayed as your fault. The Republicans are getting away scott free and the media is helping them.
You need to get the Fairness Doctrine reestablished if you hope to govern and get a fair hearing in the public and be able to have the Democrats have a fair chance in the next elections...The media won't allow you to get a fair hearing because they don't have to. And they're owned by right wing Republicans. They need to be trust busted and the Fairness Doctrine that Reagan took out, needs to put it back in if you hope to have the news coverage at all fair.
During Clinton's Administration, the media were owned by 80 different people of diverse viewpoint and now there are four or five media owners that you can count on one hand and they're all right wing The modern news coverage shows it. How can you call this a Democracy when you have Tokyo Rose in charge of public dissemination of purely GOP talking points and posing as objective news?
The press has always been called 'The Fourth Estate." The press is one leg of the stool, and their leg is about as straight as a dog's hind leg. You will never be able to communicate with the Public as long as talking heads and news 'reporters' exaggerate the GOP's influence and power. The press is empowering the GOP to usurp your presidency. Let the Republicans yell "censorship' if you try to put the Fairness Doctrine back in. They've censored everything since the time of Ronald Reagan. That's how they almost impeached Clinton and later started the Iraq war with the media's complicity.
There are things happening every day that are ignored and we have to hear hobby horsed tabloid type stories that they harp on for days. I grew up during the Vietnam War and back then people were allowed to see the unvarnished truth. Since then news has been sculpted and tailored and the left has been silenced while mega conglomerates merge all the news outlets.
The GOP and the press are in an all-out war against your presidency and they cleverly hide it behind pseudo objective coverage that is unvarnished right wing propaganda.
We voted you in to get things done. We don't need one party and a narrow band of oligarchs impeding what the people voted for. You can eradicate the unfairness and allow both sides equal access.
As it stands now, the press is trying to undo and reverse the last election. They're trying to get a death grip on you before you can even develop your policies so they can sway the American people away from you. Given enough repetition people will believe the GOP version which they are being repeatedly told on news programs.
The GOP are obstructionists and they're impeding the progress of the country. They had their turn and they need to be kicked out of the way from having such unfair, inordinate influence in view of their major election losses.
This Fairness Doctrine is well worth looking into. The G0P and press alliance needs to be reined in and nipped in the bud and forced to be fair.
You wouldn’t have to be in continual campaign mode if you didn’t have to fight off media attacks on you which cast doubt before people even get a chance to hear all sides of issues. Your credibility is weakened when you must face continual, ridicule and criticism from the Press.
It’s a sad day when Rush Limbaugh’s talking points get more hearing than your explanations and policies get. And Limbaugh would love to continue to shout you down because he has all kinds of undeserved power that he wasn’t elected to and he has nothing to back up what he says.
We are in a fight for the future of America. We shouldn’t have to have a slander-jock on Hillbilly Heroin setting national policy. Please defend the sixty percent of the public that voted you in and let’s keep their voice from being drowned out by constant repetition of half truths and GOP mantras.
There needs to an antidote to the constant planting of seeds of doubt and always questioning everything you do, parsing, dissecting and twisting the truth. They continually leave out things you say and turn it inside out and present dishonest claims as the truth and then recycle the same trash that never worked for the last 30 years since Ronald Reagan. .
I hope you and your staff will listen to this and consider it as a step toward the restoration of representative Democracy.
A strong, truthful, honest press is necessary for Democracy to survive. . Sincerely, John Lorenz
