You don't know me, Mr. President, but I am one of those who have been a detractor of yours for many years, mostly because of your domestic agenda; the “in your face” attempt to dismantle Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and other social welfare programs, your steadfastness to a “trickle down economy” that was proven decades ago not to work in real life, and your invasion of Iraq for reasons that have also long ago been proven unfounded by the evidence on the ground.
Soon after 9/11, I cannot count the hours, weeks and months I have spent studying the Islamic faith trying to understand what you meant when you said there were “moderate” Muslims who were our allies. At the end of that journey, I found the most peaceful of all Muslims to be the Shi'a who had proven over the decades their ability to live among those of differing faiths and who had the willingness to lay down their very lives to defend those of another faith in their lands.
On the other hand, every repressive Islamic state I found to be Sunni Muslims, most notably Saudi Arabia who are actually a Wahhabie Sect of Sunni, people who teach their ninth graders that they are to kill all Jews, Infidels and other Muslims who are not Wahhabies. They even export this kind of schooling to other Islamic states. But, you publicly announce that these Muslims are our friends and the Shi'a, Iran in particular, are our enemies.
If Saudi Arabians are “moderates”, as you claim, then tell me why they refused to increase their oil production to stabilize or bring down the price of crude oil? Don't tell me, I know why. It is because they are willing to tolerate our presence in Iraq. It's all about the oil, isn't it? Whereas the Shi'as are adamant that America pull out of Iraq and their reoccupation with the Israeli/Palestinian issue. If we do leave then we can't very well carry on a decent campaign in Afghanistan against the Taliban and we most certainly won't be able to introduce our own home grown multi-national oil companies into the mix which are predominantly owned by American stock holders.
Why?
Just like the money soothsayers are espousing of late, within another year we could be looking at $200 a barrel crude oil. Do you really think putting US multi-national oil companies into Iraq will help ease the $200 a barrel crunch? As I sit here writing this, my food dollars have shrunk 30% since the first of the year. What do you think will happen when those food dollars shrink by another 50% on top of what they already have? You need to begin asking yourself the question, are American citizens willing to become a third world economy because you are not willing to shed American blood for the right reasons?
But just allowing a select few to enrich themselves off other American citizen's misery, you might very well find yourself trying to fight a war that the average citizen has become unwilling to support.
$200 a barrel crude oil poses the greatest threat to Americans, much less the rest of the world. At that price, quickly it will become apparent to everyone that those things we can produce and consume at the local level will be affordable, that which is trucked in will be pricey and that which must be imported will be completely out of the reach of most consumers. Do you really want to put the American people and their economy back into the 30's and the Great Depression? Do you think they will stand for an economy like the one in Nigeria? Maybe you and those who advise you do.
If so, while you're at it, you need to give the super-rich another tax break because from that moment on they are going to need every dime of it to hire enough security to protect them and their possessions from the rest of America.
