An Election Day Incident |

8501 Plainfield Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236. At around 1:30 p.m. today,Election Day, November 23, 2009 I witnessed a hard to ignore spectacle originating from a malfunctioning Hart interCivic Optical Scanner in Precinct "Sycamore C" that thank goodness wasn't in my precinct.
A voter and a precinct worker tried feeding the voter's ballot into the Scammer, oh I mean the Scanner about 6 - 7 times. This Hart InterCivic Scanner displayed its brute force to the voter above named Valerie Orozco and the precinct worker referred to above, named Judy Brandt. Valerie Orozco and precinct worker, Judy Brandt ended up folding Valerie's regular ballot into thirds and enclosed it in a white business - size envelope which had a white sticker label. The worker licked it and sealed it. Valerie put it into the bottom slot
of the demented scanner. Judy Brandt made a phone call in Valerie's behalf to the BOE. Couldn't get anybody just then.
A man tried to vote on the same scanner after Valerie left. It malfunctioned again. Fortunately, at this point in time, Judy Brandt the precinct worker had 2 fortuitous things happen at the same time. During a successful phone call for help, the scanner corrected itself spontaneously and to the best of my knowledge the man voted successfully.
A final note: Before Valerie left, I asked her to write down the serial number/model of the machine. We traded phone numbers. I called her when I got home. I asked if she got the serial number/model however the precinct worker asked her to move. Valerie said the scanner gave her daughter the blues as well as 3 or 4 other people. I told Valerie, the hopefully victorious voter a little about election advocacy. She's interested. I asked Valerie if she would be willing to tell her story to any interested advocate or advocacy group. She told me to provide her phone number for that purpose.
