It has been difficult to ascertain the popularity of Libya's Muammar Gaddafi among the citizens of Libya. However, the Obama Administration has continued to insist that Gaddafi "must go." To counter this lawless demand, "Americans for Gaddafi" is formed.

AMERICANS FOR GADDAFI

STATEMENT

We "Americans for Gaddafi" believe that a continuation of Muammar Gaddafi's leadership of Libya is the best option for the American people as Libya makes a transition to a more democratic state. Col. Gaddafi has a track record of providing a stable and economically viable environment for the Libyan people. Under his leadership, Libya has become one of the top nations of Africa in terms of the prosperity of its citizens and public services provided, including free education and health care.

Gaddafi and his sons and daughters are the most sure path at this time for continuing the country's hard-won economic gains while a process continues for the introduction of needed reforms. Gaddafi's family enjoys the support of a large portion, if not the vast majority, of the Libyan people.

Americans are directly and adversely affected by the decision of the Administration of U.S. President Barack Obama to bomb targets in Libya, and to support a rebel faction active in the country. Our tax money is now being needlessly diverted once again on the pretext of a "humanitarian" disaster the administration claims was avoided by this military intervention. This is a claim without substance. This claim has not been verified by an objective forum set up for the purpose.

The military action has saddled Americans with a cost approaching $1 billion, but the total cost can be expected to vastly exceed that amount when reparations for damages are taken into account. The military action, including the bombardment of the country through missile strikes, has also led to civilian deaths, even though the purpose of U.N. Resolution 1973, the basis used to authorize the attacks, was the protection of civilians. NATO attacks have damaged Libya's infrastructure and the military establishment needed to keep the country stable and to ward off hostile attacks--a legitimate and necessary function of the state.

Libya has not attacked other countries and was not a threat to the United States.

We "Americans For Gaddafi" therefore:

* Support Muammar Gaddafi as the best leadership option to continue vital functions of the country and to institute needed reforms;

* Demand that the United States and other NATO states immediately cease unjustified and belligerent military action against the current government of Libya;

* Create a commission to assess the damage to the Libyan people as a result of NATO intervention, and begin instituting the repair of the infrastructure and the payment of reparations to the Libyan people.

* Support moves by Col. Gaddafi and the seated Libyan government to peacefully reconcile with the rebel forces, if they are indeed indigenous, and not instigated externally;

* Support Col. Gaddafi in his efforts to institute needed reforms in his country;

* Establish an objective commission to examine any claims made by NATO forces and the United Nations in justifying the current military intervention in Libya.

Americans cannot afford to trash another country and push it into state of chaos, as it did to Iraq and Afghanistan. The intervention in Libya blemishes the reputation of America and is very likely a violation of the cherished precepts of the U.S. Constitution, which require that only Congress authorize war actions. The intervention was accompanied by measures that may qualify as war crimes. Now is the time to demand an immediate cessation of U.S. and NATO military action, whether overt, covert or indirect, against Libya. The United States has up to this point recognized the current regime as legitimate and retaining all the rights of of a nation to defend itself against attack and keep order within its borders.

We support the regime of Muammar Gaddafi as the best choice at this time to institute required reforms, maintain economic progress, and establish needed stablility in the country.
