American Indians & White Supremacist Thought

This is a snippet of something I am working on. A direct quote from Blackfeet actress Misty Upham on her Facebook page. The first thing you have to understand about Modern Colonialism is that it's primary ideology is white supremacy. So white supremacists aren't necessarily people in the KKK or Aryan groups, they are simply people who believe that the white culture is superior, sometimes the people who believe that are those who aren't even white themselves. You will notice in that one paragraph several assumptions. That Natives automatically "hate" those who are successful and that the successful people are mostly white. You will also notice that she automatically believes that natives are weak minded and have low self confidence. She then implies that she has "EARNED" her station in life, as if no other Indian ever has. Were she true in her convictions she wouldn't allow criticism to get to her, instead she assumes all natives who disagree with her, somebody who has made it in the "white" world are all "hateful." In this you see an indigenous person who identifies with the white culture, believes them to be superior, and goes to great lengths to align herself with it. So the perceived hate of indigenous people towards white people, also becomes a hatred for her, the person who has aligned herself with what she believes is the superior culture.

A fascinating mindset, one of which I will be exploring much more in the future. - Bill

I am through with trying to help Natives. Their attitudes and hate towards anyone who is successful and racism towards white people is why the rez is so fukked up. Was trying to help and they accused me of doing it for press. Poverty state of mind and low self-confidence. Nobody can say I didn't try. Until our people learn to respect the land (clean up the rez) appreciate sh*t that's done for them and learn to stop fighting over shitty, petty things I think they belong in their misery. Fuk em. I'm gonna enjoy my life and all the years of hard work I put in and EARNED. Not gonna feel guilty. Done wasting my time with such hateful people.
