When we speak of America's bloody incursions around the world, do we consider the culture of death that permeates our very existence almost everywhere we look?
Movies. Television. Magazines. Newspapers. Video games. Aren't they all about death?
The media justifies their obsession with death by reminding us that the Bible is steeped in death, yet what they fail to consider is that the Bible is print whereas the images of the movies, television and video games are action - motion - images of violence constantly repeated so that it's almost as though the viewer is being brainwashed.
The media supports it position by reminding us that they have the constitutional right to show what they wish as long as they don't incite violence or are obscene.
Yet, look at what is happening in society. When I was a kid in the Fifties the worst thing I could do was smoke a cigarette. Nowadays, the worst thing a kid can do is shoot six or seven classmates and teachers at school.
Those who believe that guns are the problem should think about what is happening in England at the moment where stabbing attacks have become so common place the Brits have become alarmed and are now attempting to understand why they have occurred.
The motion picture, "The Dark Knight" has been mentioned as a culprit because the Heath Ledger character displays a knife throughout the film. Authorities see the constant repetition of this image as something to be concerned about, like the image of smoking in film, which groups are against because of the influence such images have on young people.
But the question must be asked, why is the media so obsessed with images of death to such a degree that America has become a culture of death.
And if this is the case, as I think it is, then we need to consider what America would be like if all images of death were removed from the media.
Could such a thing occur?
I think it can if we decide to do it.
