The world is a very big place. If you look you can find nasty people doing nasty things all over the place. It has always been this way and always will be. America uses this as an excuse to expand the global economic empire of international corporations (the largest corporations are international in scope even if we think of them as American).
By economic and military means America has created vassal states (we call them "allies") under corrupt leaders that are willing, even eager, to cede control of their sovereign resources, e.g. oil, to international corporations.
We have become accustomed to the technique. If a country has valuable resources it doesn't matter if its leadership is nasty or not, at some point America will paint its leaders as evil dictators, madmen who eat babies, then infiltrate the country and foment anti-government riots aimed at overthrowing the leaders and installing a "more friendly" government. If this doesn't work we launch military attacks to rid the country of the "nasty despot" and "free the people." Finally the valuable resource is looted by the international corporations.
Examples abound: from the oil rich Middle East (most recently, Libya ) to Central American banana republics. Hugo Chavez , the democratically elected Venezuelan president has been in our sights for over a decade so that its government controlled oil can be turned over to international corporations.
Whatever their differences are on domestic issues almost all Republicans and many Democrats (a handful of libertarian and liberal politicians excepted) agree when it comes to looting other countries of their resources. In terms of its international relationships America acts as the military arm of international corporations.
