I am blown away that it has only been 25 years! The early 80's to be exact, 1981? It was in 1988 that my step-brother was diagnosed with several "disease's" including skin cancer. Quickly, his dx was changed to HIV+/AIDs. I remember how he was shunned in the Castro district of San Francisco. Eye's dropped down and heads turned away, back then. His life ended shortly after in a SF Hostile. If he were alive today, the virus would most likely not have killed him. AND his peers would have embraced and supported him. People live long, productive lives today as long as they take their many meds and all in all live healthy lifestyles.
But, in other countries people do not have this luxury-Like Africa India for example. The news article describes quite well the differences. It is such an important thing for those of us who live in "developed" countries to educate ourselves and each other. Our brothers and sisters across the seas are suffering horrendously without proper medicines, and general attitudes towards the devastating disease AIDS. It is not heard of much anymore in general media news sources. That has been hidden away with many of the other off-color stories of the world. And the result is that people have become complacent, ignorant, and "too busy" or "too good" to even care about our brothers and sisters fragile "existance", I mean "live's."
